THE DANGER OF UNGODLINESS

THE DANGER OF UNGODLINESS

The word ‘ungodly’ means to be irreligious, or living as God does not exist. It means to either deny or disobey God in your life. The ungodly man may call himself a Christian, attends church, but God is not in the center of his heart, mind and will. The Bible calls ungodliness sin. A relationship can degenerate and become ungodly. An ungodly marriage may look good but is corrupted inside. It’s a dangerous soul-tie, overfamiliar, and sinful relationship. In the Bible, an unbeliever is called ungodly. But it is possible for a believer to behave like an ungodly. You still go to church, pray, read the Bible, but in your daily life, you live like there is no God. This evil spirit of ungodliness can influence your marriages and other relationships. God is angry with the ungodly and punishes them.

“For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 1:4). “And this occurred because of false brethren secretly brought in (who came in by stealth to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage), 5 to whom we did not yield submission even for an hour, that the truth of the gospel might continue with you” (Gal 2:4,5). Here we see the danger of ungodly infiltration in the churches or in the homes. These ungodly men have crept in unnoticed. They entered secretly, like snakes. They pretend to be born again but they are not. They look innocent, but they are spiritual spies and cause much damage from inside. They bring false doctrines or sinful ideas to influence the minds of immature believers and to control their decisions. Their aim is to study the liberty and love we have and to bring us into the bondage of sin. They turn the doctrine of justification by Grace and by Faith into a license to sin. They are Satan’s agents. In a prayerful church, they will not go far. The Holy Spirit will expose them. They will either repent or run.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Rom 1:18). Ungodliness means choosing to deny or ignore God. Unrighteousness means active wickedness and evil. These sinful men “suppress truth”. Truth means the knowledge of God revealed in Creation, in man’s conscience, and especially in the Bible. The suppression or quenching of truth is a willful act. It is not done in ignorance. “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil” (Jn 3:19). Selah!

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night” (Ps 1:1,2).

The Bible revealed that there are two groups of people in this world: The Godly (saved) and the Ungodly (unsaved). It is possible to be a believer, and you still listen to the counsel of the ungodly. That ungodly counsel will corrupt your character and testimony and damage your marriage. The word “blessed” means the happiness, the spiritual and material prosperity of a godly man. He puts God at the center of everything he plans and does. “To walk” means a way of life. The counsel of the ungodly is the advice to disobey God’s commandments, to forget God in your decisions. This is the reckless and dangerous path of the wicked and ungodly men. Without repentance, sin becomes worse. The first level is to listen to the counsel of the ungodly. The second step is to enter and stand in the path of sinners. This is a decision and an action. Sin has now become a habit, a lifestyle. To sit in the seat of the scornful shows a settled situation. The backslider has found his place among those who reject God and the Bible. They not only hate God, but they mock the believers who try to follow Jesus.

“Do not enter the path of the wicked, And do not walk in the way of evil. 15 Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on. 16 For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall. 17 For they eat the bread of wickedness And drink the wine of violence” (PV 4:14-17). To live a godly life is a choice. There is a price to pay. To die to sin and reject evil is a daily choice. The believer obeys God’s Word and encourages others to do so. He does spiritual warfare against all evil. He is not careless with his testimony. He is committed to obey God’s Word. This is a warning about the company we keep. Your choice of friends, mentors, pastors, counsellors, is a mirror of your character. Be wise when making friends.

“Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits” (1Cor 15:33). This is a warning against deception. False teachers can deceive you with false doctrines and ungodly counsel. God cannot be deceived. But we can be deceived. Be vigilant about the influences you allow into your life, whether friendships, media, or other sources. Protect your heart. Seek friends that align with biblical values and encourage spiritual growth. “He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed” (PV 13:20). In the Bible, godly wisdom is a great achievement. Wisdom can be thought and can also be caught, as we walk closer to godly wise men. Elijah and Elisha, Paul and Timothy, these are godly relationships between mentors and students. Making friends with fools is dangerous. A fool is not only someone who is mentally incapable, but a man who rejects God’s Word. Following fools leads to spiritual and physical destruction.

Below are some examples of bad, ungodly relationships and marriages. God punished all of them. They died untimely and shameful death.

*Zimri (a Jew) and Cozbi (a Moabites) (Numbers 25). Phineas was zealous for the Lord and killed this ungodly couple. God blessed him!

*King Ahab and Jezebel – “But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the LORD, because Jezebel his wife stirred him up” (1Kg 21:25). Revelation 2:18-29.

*Annanias and Saphira (Acts 5:1-11). Their sin was that they tried to deceive the Church pretending to be better than they are.

Ungodly relationships do not give glory to God. Both partners are selfish and wicked, helping one another to sin. The wife submits unto her husband as unto the devil. The husband loves his wife as devil loves sin. These are some ways you can detect if your marriage is ungodly:

*All major decisions are done by themselves and not by asking God to approve of lead. They decide to buy things, travel, how to spend money, how to spend their vacations etc, based on the time or the amount of money they have. In a godly relationship, major decisions are done with fasting, prayer, and waiting on God. Sometimes, telling a wise spiritual leader is necessary for confirmation.

*Your conversation is only about worldly things, material things, money, children etc. God’s Word is not the center of your conversations

*The husband and wife are careless with their relationship and with every work they do. Working without commitment is sin. Jesus is your Master only if you work with all your heart. “Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve” (Col 3:23,24; AMP).

What is the solution? Repent and come back to Jesus! Remember that “when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly” (Rom 5:6). Fast and Pray! “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22 And on some have compassion, making a distinction; 23 but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh” (Jude 1:20-23).

Consider what Christ could have done for the Church instead of laying down his life: He could have subjected us to criticism – churches are full of things to criticize. He could have pointed out our weaknesses, which are many. Or He could have outright condemned us – rightly dismissed us as an unworthy bride. But when Christ looks at us, the Church, He has only praise, commendation and encouragement. He never condemns us! He never accuses us. We are very weak and have many problems. We sin daily, but He never criticizes us. Some of you may say: but God hates sin. Yes! But when we the believers fall into sin, Jesus is our advocate in heaven. When He looks at us now, He does not see sinners or troublemakers. He sees His brothers and sisters, whom He carries to heaven on eagles’ wings. This is how Christ loves us. Not only that He died for our sins, but He has removed every condemnation, shame or guilt. This is how the husbands should love their wives. Embrace your wives, problems and all. Be like Jesus! Do like Jesus! Carry their pains and limitations on your bodies and quench them with love and prayers. This is how Christ loves the Church! Worship the Lord!

AGAPE LOVE IN MARRIAGE

AGAPE LOVE IN MARRIAGE

Christian wives are commanded to love and submit to their husbands “as to the Lord”. To submit it means willingly allowing another person to have power, authority or control over you. The wife’s submission to her husband is a manifestation of worshipping Jesus, the Head of the Church and proves that God’s Word is true. “A wife should put her husband first, as she does the Lord” (Eph 5:22; CEV). Many wives misunderstand godly submission. They see it as a form of oppression or slavery in marriage. That is a mistake. When Paul wrote this letter, the women were treated as second class citizens, as property, first by their fathers and brothers, and later by their husbands. They now became born again. They became free from all bondages. They could behave and speak as they wished. Paul tells them that as free women in Christ they need to submit to their husbands. Foolish freedom leads to rebellion. The wife does not need to submit to all men. Her submission in this special manner is only to her husband. It is done willingly, lovingly, proving that she is a woman of God.

The best way to understand the act of submission is to see it displayed by our Lord. “And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.” 43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him” (Lk 22:41-43). In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus prays to God the Father. There is a battle of wills. In His human desire Jesus tries to avoid the cup of pain, shame and suffering on the Cross. But as God’s Son, He wants to totally submit to God, to do God’s will to save men. He must become a sin to save sinners. God’s wrath against sin will fall on Jesus. Jesus understands obedience and sacrifice as part of God’s plan for salvation. By submitting to God’s will Jesus declares His total trust in God the Father. As Jesus prays, His disciples struggle to stay awake. This shows the weakness of the human body and mind.

HOW DOES CHRIST LOVES HIS CHURCH? CHRIST DOES NOT CONDEMN US!

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior]” (Rom 8:1; AMP). Condemnation is a legal term, declaring that someone is evil and must go to hell. When someone is accused of a crime and comes before the judge, he is either condemned or he is vindicated from all charges. In Greek, the word ‘condemnation’ means guilty verdict, penalty and punishment. The word “now” shows the present reality of those who are saved. In the court, God, the Supreme Judge, declares that for Christ’ sake, the accused is not guilty of sin, and he must not be punished for it. Those who believe that Jesus died for them and took the punishment for their sins, are justified by grace and thru faith. This is a fact: there is no more condemnation for the believers in Christ. They have a new spiritual position and status because of their mystical unity with Christ. The Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus brings them eternal life and freedom by the Holy Spirit. The believers are eternally free from the fear, guilt, shame and punishment of sin because of their faith in Christ crucified. This freedom is not given by merit. It is purely by grace!

In the setup of marriage, the husband and wife must stop condemning one another. If God does not condemn your spouse, you too should do the same! Condemnation is more than criticizing. When husband and wife speak negative words to each other, producing shame or guilt, they go against God’s Word that says there is no more condemnation for those who are saved. Husbands and wives, control your tongue. By insulting your spouse, you disobey God’s Law. That is dangerous. See each other as God’s children and spiritual heirs together with Christ. “Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak]” (Eph 4:29; AMP). The word ‘unwholesome’ means rotten fruit. Don’t speak negative, hurtful ugly words. Speak blessings! Speak Life!

BUT HE REFUSED!

BUT HE REFUSED!

“Again, the devil took Him up on a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory [splendor, magnificence, and excellence] of them; 9 and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written and forever remains written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’” 11 Then the devil left Him; and angels came and ministered to Him [bringing Him food and serving Him]” (Matt 4:8-11; AMP)

In the history of the world, some Kingdoms and empires occupied one fifth of the world and ruled over millions of people. The most powerful kingdoms in the world were: The United Kingdom (or The British Empire), the Mongol Empire, the Russian Empire, the Imperial China, The Umayyad Islamic Caliphate and the Spanish Empire. After the second world war, these empires broke down and are now replaced by powerful countries who influence other weaker countries. Power is an essential factor in global politics. A nation’s power is determined by its military strength, economic prosperity, technological advancements, diplomatic reach, and cultural impact. Right now, America is the most powerful nation in the world, closely followed by China, Russia, and India. The balance of global power is constantly shifting due to economic developments, military advancements, and diplomatic strategies.

This is the third temptation of Jesus by the devil in the wilderness. The devil took Him on a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory (their splendor, magnificence and excellence). This mountain is not a natural mountain on earth. There is no mountain from where anyone can see all the earth. It is a symbolic spiritual elevation. The devil offers Jesus the glory of this world. The devil claims that he is the owner of these kingdoms. He said that this world “has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish” (Lk 4:6). This is a question: who has dominion over the Kingdoms of this world, God or the devil? The devil deceived Adam to fall into sin. The dominion given by God to Adam is now lost to the devil thru deception. The Bible says that this world is under the devil. “The whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one” (1Jn 5:19). Jesus calls Satan “the ruler of this world”. “I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of the world (Satan) is coming. And he has no claim on Me [no power over Me nor anything that he can use against Me]” (Jn 14:30; AMP). At the same time, we are told that the whole world belongs to God, the Creator. “The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein” (Ps 24:1). We deduce that God is the Creator and the owner of everything, including the earth. God has allowed the devil to claim dominion over the world because he deceived Adam. The devil has temporary authority in the world. But he is limited by God’s sovereignty and rightful ownership. For example, the devil needed God’s permission to attack Job. God allowed him to attack Job but set boundaries (Job 1:6-12). At the end, God vindicated Job’s faith and blessed him.

The Bible says categorically that God is the owner and ruler of all kingdoms on earth. “The Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and He

gives it to whomever He will and sets over it the lowest of men” (Dan 4:17). Listen to what we are told about Jesus Christ: “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist” (Col 1:15-17). Jesus is the Creator and the Sustainer of all things in the universe. He is not threatened by Satan’s boast. The Bibe tells us that at the last judgment, the devil shall be eternally punished (Rev 20:10). The devil’s desire is to take the place of God. He wanted Jesus to submit to him and to worship him. But Jesus defeated the devil with the Word of God!

When the devil said that the Kingdoms belong to him, Jesus did not dispute the claim. He did not want to start an argument with the devil at that time. But the fact that Jesus kept quiet does not mean He agreed with the devil’s claim. At that time, Jesus stayed focused on the matter at hand. He rejected the devil’s offer of glory in the world. According to God’s plan of salvation, God the Son must go to the earth, and He must do the work of salvation. God the Father promised that after the Cross, He will glorify Jesus with the original eternal glory He had before the world began. The devil wanted Jesus to take his offer and not to wait for the promise of God the Father. But Jesus chose to do God’s will, go the Cross and die for sinners. His Glory must come after the Cross and not before it. If Jesus took the offer of the devil, He would lose His authority to be the Savior of men. His work on earth as Savior would fail. The devil wanted Jesus to worship Him for giving Him the glory of this world. This was a bribe to worship the devil. Jesus saw the evil in this offer and totally rejected it saying: “Go away, Satan!” Satan was standing in front of Jesus, blocking His vision with his offer of worldly glory. Once Satan left, Jesus’s vision of God was restored. This was a total triumph over Satan. Immediately, God the Father sent angels to minister to Jesus and bring Him food.

At the Cross, Jesus totally defeated the devil. God gave Jesus total authority over all men. He became the King of kings. “Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Rev 11:15). The devil offered Jesus the fading glory of this world. After the Cross, God gave Jesus the eternal glory as the Son of God. “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil 2:9-11). We confess that Jesus is the Lord! Selah!

Lessons:

*Temptation is not sin. Yielding to temptation is sin! Spiritual warfare is real. The devil’s strategy is to offer the immediate temporary pleasures of the flesh (political power, wealth and fame), so that we forget the eternal glories of the Kingdom of God. The devil will offer you any pleasure on earth, to distract you from doing God’s will, and to block your vision. Satan wants to compromise your faith and damage your testimony. Reject him! Find God’s purpose for your life. Stay focused! The victory of Jesus at the Cross is our boast now!

*The command to worship God alone is foundational to the Christian faith. Worship is not for sale! The devil is ready to pay silver and gold to corrupt our desire to worship God. We reject all idols, including love of money, power and fame! We submit and worship God alone!

*Jesus won the battle thru the Word of God. Study the scriptures! Pray! Take the whole armor of God! Serve God in the local church!

*The devil’s authority over the world is limited and temporary. God is sovereign over His creation. When we are persecuted or suffer in this world, we should be encouraged. Although the devil is still active and can do much harm, we belong to Jesus. We are soldiers of Christ.

*The basic strategy of the devil is to make the believer doubt God and His goodness. He told Eve that God is hiding something good from her. That she should go and take it by herself. When the devil tempted Jesus, he told Him that He should not wait for God to supply bread, fame and glory. That God the Father cannot be trusted to supply all these things to Him. He suggested that Jesus should go and take these things by Himself. Jesus rejected his lies and conquered the devil. Jesus waited for God’s time and God did not disappoint Him! Selah!

BUT HE REFUSED

“Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. 7 And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.” 8 But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand. 9 There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” 10 So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her” (Gen 39:6-10).

Joseph is a type of Christ. When tempted sexually by Potiphar’s wife, he refused to submit to her. This was not easy because he was her husband’s slave. A slave was killed for disobeying his master. Because she was rejected, she slandered him. Joseph went to prison. But later, God vindicated him. His God given dreams came to pass. He became the Savior of his family and nation. What was Joseph’ secret? How did he overcome sexual temptation? His secret was the presence of God with him. Four times in this chapter we are told that ‘the Lord was with Joseph’. He loved God. He wanted to please God and not man. The desire to please God is the best medicine against sin. Joseph maintained his integrity. was jealous over His testimony as a child of God. Because he loved God, he hated and rejected sin. Lesson: if the Lord is with you, you shall overcome all trials and temptations! No man or devil can destroy your life, destiny or testimony! True success is not measured by worldly standards but by God’s favor and fulfilling the purpose of our lives.

“The LORD was with Joseph, and he [even though a slave] became a successful and prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian” (Gen 39:2; AMP). Joseph was a foreigner and a slave. Yet, the Bible calls him “a successful man”. In Hebrew, the word “successful” means to make progress, to experience breakthrough, to push forward and conquer all opposition. The Lord was with Jospeh. It is the constant theme about him. God’s presence means peace, prosperity, favor with people, wisdom and guidance. Though he was a slave, it was in Potiphar’s house that Joseph’s gift of leadership started to manifest. Prosperity is both spiritual and material. True prosperity comes from God. This promise is fulfilled in Christ. All believers experience the presence of God in their lives. The resurrected Christ promised: “and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen” (Matt 28:20). Lesson: As a Believer in Christ, see yourself as a successful person, no matter your situation. Reject all inferiority complexes!

Potiphar recognized God’s presence in Joseph. He trusted him. It means that people, even the unbelievers, see God’s grace in your life. Men trust those whom God has blessed. Men give responsibility to those who are trustworthy. God will bless you but be ready! Prosperity and success will test your character more than hardship. Lesson: Even when you are persecuted and you suffer, trust God to help you!

The devil has his own agents. Some people don’t care about God or God’s law. They don’t respect the institution of marriage. Potiphar’s wife did not care about sexual purity. Lesson: “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body” (1 Cor 6:18). The imperative “flee” suggests immediate and decisive action. Believers are encouraged to actively avoid situations that may lead to sexual sin. Because the Body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit, sexual sins are punished by God directly. These sins affect the health of the body, emotions, mind and spirit. Adultery is like suicide! Be careful!

Potiphar was so angry that he sent his most trusted servant Joseph to prison. Lesson: Exercise self-control! Discipline your emotions! Pray!

Learn to say No before you say Yes! Later, Joseph married a princess and had two sons: Manasseh and Ephraim. God’s time is the best!

How to fight and win against sexual sins: First, avoid places where you meet people who are sexually impure. Never look at pornographic sites on the internet. Secondly, learn to say No to sin! Don’t waste time saying No. Say it with faith, confidence and courage! Discipline your eyes! Do not admire the opposite sex. See all women as mothers, sisters or daughters. Your wife is the only woman that you should be attracted sexually. This is a battle! Jesus defeated the devil. Joseph said no to fornication. We should do the same! Because Jesus won against temptation, we must do the same! In Christ, victory is not only possible but expected. To the glory of God! Worship the Lord!

GOD’S TIME IS THE BEST

GOD’S TIME IS THE BEST

“Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You” (Jn 17:1). The first words Jesus utters in this prayer are these: “Father, the hour has come”. Here we see that Jesus was always conscious of the plan of salvation. He knew who He was and what was His work on earth. At the wedding of Cana, He said: “My hour has not yet come” (Jn 2:4). It seems that Mary wanted a more public miracle, so that people would see her Son’s glory. Jesus indeed did a miracle by changing the water into wine, but it was more discreet. He helped a humble family. He manifested His glory and many disciples trusted Him (Jn 2:11). But the full glory was yet to be revealed. Jesus says that now is that time! Thru His death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and the Father’s approval of His earthly work in the plan of salvation, His perfect glory will be revealed to all! His death on the Cross was necessary for sinful men to be saved. Man is not saved by the good life of Jesus, by His teachings or miracles that He performed. Man is saved by the death of Jesus. “The wages of sin is death” (Rom 6:23). Therefore, Blood must be shed before sin can be atoned. Jesus died in place of sinful man. The Cross shows the Justice and the Love of God, at the same time. God is the Master planner, even in the timing of events. Lesson: The perfect time of salvation gives me faith that God is never too early and never too late even in my life!

GOD IS SOVEREIGN OVER TIME – GOD IS THE MASTER PLANNER IN THE TIMING OF EVENTS

God is eternal. He exists outside time. God lives in eternity. We live in time. God’s plans for His creation and for man’s salvation were made before the foundation of the word. God accomplishes His eternal plans within the framework of time, thru men who live on earth. Time is a big issue for us, but it is not the most important thing to God. God is not limited by time, but He works in us and thru us knowing that we have a limited time on earth. Eternal life is perfect. It cannot be improved upon. Promotion is an earthly concept.

God introduced Himself to Moses as I AM WHO I AM (Exo 3:14). “Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God” (Psa 90:2). God is sovereign in everything, including the timing of events. Sometimes, it seems like God is passive, that nothing is happening. Suddenly, God moves and does something unexpected. It may look like God is late, but God always does the right thing, at the right time. His ways are different than our ways. He is always right. The perfect timing of events gives all the glory to God! We can trust God because He is in control. He is moving history for the good of his people. He is in control because He is the Creator. He saves because He is love. God has appointed a time for everything, including the incarnation. “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son…so that we might receive adoption as sons” (Gal. 4:5-6). Jesus came to earth as Man and died on the Cross at God’s time! Selah!

Because God is Omnipresent, Omnipotent, and Omniscient, God is sovereign. God is sovereign over time, all the time. The word ‘sovereign’ means having the highest power, ultimate authority, being completely independent from His creation. God has all the power, wisdom, and authority to do anything He chooses with His creation. He has the power to prevent any action. For anything to happen in the universe, God must “allow” it. All Christians agree with this doctrine. What they argue about is how much control God exercises over the wills of men. God created man and gave him the power to choose. God is holy. For sin to enter the world, it means that God allowed men to choose sin. But they must face the consequences. God can do anything. He can act and intervene in any situation, but He often chooses to act indirectly. He allows certain things for reasons of His own. But thru God’s perfect will or His permissive will, God receives His glory!

God told Abraham to “know certainly” about future things, that his descendants will be “strangers in a foreign land” and suffer as slaves. In the fourth generation they shall return to the Promised Land. There shall be an exodus after 400 years. They shall come back when the iniquity of the Amorites (the Canaanites) will be complete (Gen 15:13-16). These words refer to the time when Isreal went to Egypt and later became slaves there (Exo 12:40-42). The time of suffering in Egypt was to humble them so that God can later bless them. When they came out, they remembered God’s prophecy to Abraham. They worshipped God for His faithfulness, for the exact timing of deliverance. God waits for the sin of the Amorites to be complete. This shows the timing of God’s judgment. God is patient and kind. He desires that men should repent and not perish (2Pet 3:9). But if men refuse to repent, God judges them. Here we see that God uses His people to conquer the Promised Land as an act of judgment against the sinful Amorites.

God says: “For thus says the LORD, ‘When seventy years [of exile] have been completed for Babylon, I will visit (inspect) you and keep My good promise to you, to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the LORD, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” (Jer 29:10,11; AMP). When God spoke this Word to Jeremiah, His people were in exile, refugees in Babylon. God punished them for rejecting His Word thru the prophets. The people were suffering there. God tells them that He has good plans for them. They should accept the just punishment, but they should look beyond it. God is sovereign. He alone knows the future because He designs the future. At the end of the punishment, once the people have humbled themselves, God will bless them with peace and well-being. God promises spiritual and physical prosperity. The future is better than the present. In Hebrew, the word “peace” is Shallom. It means peace, health, wealth, favor, and friends. God has promised thru Jeremiah that after 70 years of exile in Babylon, He will bring Isreal back to their land. Daniel read this prophecy and was encouraged by it (Dan 9:2,3). God’s came to pass. After exactly 70 years, using King Cyrus of Persia, God made a way for His people to come back to the Promised Land. Praise the Lord!

“Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. 21 And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding” (Dan 2:20, 21). God controls history. Men think that they choose their political rulers and kings, but God is sovereign. God gives prophetic words of rising and falling of kingdoms and empires. Everything happened according to God’s plan and purpose. This is a great comfort to know that no human ruler is stronger than God. Like Daniel, believers are called to be faithful and wise in their environments. This involves living out our faith with integrity and courage. That faithfulness honors God!

Lessons: All God’s promises are sure. His Word is forever faithful. God’s faithfulness is part of His character and gives Him all the glory. God is in charge of Time. God oversees the length of your suffering and the time of your deliverance. He alone knows the future and orchestrates events according to His divine plan. Trust in His sovereignty, even when circumstances seem difficult. God’s people may experience suffering and trials. Exercise hope, faith and patience in times of trials as you wait for the promised deliverance. Your personal trials are part of the bigger plan of salvation. It must end in praise, in greater testimonies, and to the glory of God! The way Isreal found hope in the promises of God we should also find hope in God’s Word concerning the future. We need faith and patience to experience the promised good hope of the future which is found in Christ alone! Remember that God’s time is the best! Selah!

About His second coming Jesus said: “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only… 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matt 24:36, 42-44). His second coming is sure, but the time of the event is a secret. Jesus said that in His human nature, He does not know the time. The mighty angels live in God’s presence in heaven, but even them do not know the time of the second coming of Christ. Only God the Father, the planner of salvation, knows the time. That day will be like what happened during the time of Noah. People were living normal lives. But their wickedness has spread all over the world. They were ignorant of the danger. By faith, Noah built an ark to save his life and His family. Then suddenly, like a thief, Jesus came again. Lesson: be prepared!

TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON

“There is a season (a time appointed) for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven… A time to love and a time to hate; A time for war and a time for peace… He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]—yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end” (Ecc 3:1, 8, 11; AMP).

God has a purpose in every season of life. The word “purpose” means that God is intentional and actively involved with us, during the different seasons of life. Seasons change but God never changes. We must trust God for His perfect timing even if it is not totally clear to us. Life has many Changes and Transitions. Seek to find God’s purpose in each season. When you are young, do not desire to be old. When you are old, do not want to be young. While love is a central Christian virtue, there is a time to hate evil. Our hatred is directed towards sin and not individuals. Because of sin, conflict is inevitable and part of human experience. Christians are called to navigate these times with patience, seeking God’s guidance and wisdom, striving for peace whenever possible in all seasons of life.

God has made everything beautiful in its time. In Hebrew, the word “beautiful” means something that is fitting, or appropriate. It means something that has a purpose. It is the right thing done is the right manner and at the right time. When God created everything, He said that “it was good”. The creation was beautiful. Sin damaged the beauty of creation but could not destroy it. Man was made after the image of God. That is why God has planted eternity in men’s hearts. This longing for eternal life is peculiar to men. The animals do not desire that. Salvation is by God’s grace and by faith in Jesus Christ. Once you become saved, you’re longing for eternity, by learning how to master time. This is God’s command: “make the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil” (Eph 5:15; AMP). Redeeming the time is beautiful. Only God knows all things. That is why as believers we live by faith. Even when we do not understand all things, we must trust God. That faith is beautiful. Trust in God’s perfect timing. Just as God made everything beautiful in its time, we must have faith that His plans for us are unfolding according to His divine schedule. Accept your limitations. Humble yourself. Also, cultivate a spiritual understanding of life and keep eternity in view. Learn to appreciate the beauty of creation. Give glory to God for all experiences, and in all seasons of life. Young or old, find joy in God!

THE DISCIPLES’ PRAYER

THE DISCIPLES’ PRAYER

“Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. 2 So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven” (Lk 11:1,2).

Jesus was a Man of prayer. He often withdrew to pray. There was something special about Him that the disciples saw. When Jesus was praying, He did not talk to God religiously, but with love and passion. His face changed. This impressed the disciples. They saw that prayer to Jesus was more than a religious obligation. It was real and powerful. He depended on God the Father for His very life. He was speaking to God as a friend speaks to a friend. They saw that Jesus has a supernatural power that propels Him to pray. They observed that they lack that power. They did not ask Jesus to teach them how to do miracles or how to preach. They wanted to learn how to pray like Him. This request reveals the fact that prayer is not just a natural religious activity, but a holy work that can be learned from others who are closer to God. The disciples needed guidance and instruction. It shows their desire to know God better. They wanted greater faith. The disciples looked at Jesus as their true spiritual mentor and teacher, and not just a friend. They addressed Him as “Lord”. They recognized His authority. They wanted Jesus to teach them the way John the Baptist was teaching his own followers. In the Hebrew culture, the mentor teaches his disciples. Here we see the connection between John, the forerunner and Jesus. They both taught their disciples how to pray. Lesson: just the way the disciples turned to Jesus to teach them how to pray, so we must go to the Bible to study God’s Word and desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Prayer is an acknowledgment that we need God and no one else can help us. If you desire to learn how to pray, trouble may come. God may place you in difficult situations where only Him can help you. But this trouble pushes you to pray. Selah!

We pray to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Prayer for the Christian is always Trinitarian. For the Christian, prayer is not a luxury. It is not optional. It is a command. It is a lifeline to God. The fact that prayer can be taught means that we can learn how to pray better. This gives us hope. Jesus expects us to pray as He expects us to breathe. In prayer we draw closer to God and God draws closer to us. The more we pray, the less we worry, and the less we fear other things. Jesus said: “When you pray, say…” In Greek, the word “say” means ‘to speak with meaning’. Prayer must be vocal, clear and intelligent.

The prayer Jesus taught (Matt 6:5-13) is divided into two parts. First, we give glory to God. Secondly, we pray for our families and others. In the second part, all the verbs are plural. That means prayer is never selfish, praying only for my needs. I must pray for others. By giving glory to God, I learn how to Love God. By praying for others, for family members and neighbors, I learn how to love people. Therefore, Agape Love is the engine of prayer. Only a Lover of Jesus prays well. Selah!

These are the two main attitudes we must display as we draw closer to God, our heavenly Father: Love and Respect! God disciplines His children. We must respect God and thank Him for that (Heb 12:7-11). During the period of chastisement, do not draw back from God. Continue to stay in His presence, pray and worship Him. Discipline is painful and profitable at the same time. Thru discipline, we become more like our Father. Family resemblance is the greatest gain for any sinner saved by Grace! Glory to God!

*The first purpose of prayer is to bring glory to the Father. “Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name”. The word “Hallowed” means holy. We must treat God with respect and awe. Holy means to be different, to be set apart from all that is common, and to hate sin. When we pray, we must hate sin and be ready to repent of it. “If I regard sin and baseness in my heart [that is, if I know it is there and do nothing about it], The Lord will not hear [me]” (Ps 66:18; AMP). We should not pray casually. We must have the fear of God. We should never take God’s name in vain. We worship God as we pray. The purpose of prayer is not that our will should be done in heaven. It is that God’s will should be done on earth. We pray: Let Your Kingdom come! The Kingdom of God is the realm, rule and reign of God in the hearts of men on earth. The Lord Jesus Christ is the King of the Kingdom. The Bible is the constitution of the Kingdom of God. By the power of the Holy Spirit, the Kingdom of God advances on earth, pushing back the forces of darkness. When I pray, I must be ready to totally submit to God, to hate sin and repent of it. Every form of rebellion and selfishness in my heart hinders my prayer. In my heart and in my mouth, Jesus must reign and rule for God to listen to me. “For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil” (1Pet 3:12). This is a warfare prayer. The devil wants you to forget the glory and the purpose of God. He wants you to only pray for yourself and your little world of material prosperity. But Prayer is greater than that! Give glory to God!

*After we pray for God’s glory and Kingdom, then we can address our family needs. Our basic needs are Provision, Pardon, and Protection. As God supplies these needs, He receives the glory, and His Kingdom advances on earth. We pray for provision. God gave His people Manna in the wilderness. They had to go out and collect it every morning. They could not store it. They learn to depend on God for their daily bread. Thank God for the food on your table. Do not grumble. Be grateful that you can eat and that you have food. Secondly, just the way we need food for the body, we also need spiritual food. We ask God for forgiveness of sins. This forgiveness is a gift of Grace and by faith in Christ Crucified. It is not a reward for doing good deeds. As you ask God for forgiveness, repent from anger and bitterness against people who have offended you. Unforgiveness is a stronghold that blocks prayer. Your relationship with God depends directly on your relationship with people. To Love God, you must learn to love people. We also pray for protection from sin. “Lead us not into temptation…” is difficult to explain. God does not lead anyone into sin (James 1:13-15). We are led into sin by our own sinful desires and lust. Sin deceives us and leads to death. This is a reminder that we totally depend on God not to fall into sin. Without God, we are weak towards sin. What Jesus is saying is that if there is any lust in me, God, in His mercy, should prevent me fulfilling that lust. That God should frustrate my lust until I repent of it. And if temptation comes, I should be free from lust, so that I can pass the test. Every godly testimony glorifies God!

THE LOST AND FOUND SON (LK 15:11-32)

This is the story of a rich man who had two sons. The younger son was worldly. The older son was religious. Both needed their father’s grace, mercy and love. The father stands for God. The younger son stands for the true believer who is backsliding. The older son stands for the religious Pharisees, who are offended at Grace. This parable is called “the crown and the pearl of all parables, the Gospel inside the Gospel, the most divinely tender loving humanly touching story ever told on earth, or the finest short story ever written”. It shows the power of Agape Love that never fails to overcome human sin of selfishness and stubbornness. The younger son is not called ‘prodigal’ in the parable. The word ‘prodigal’ means wasteful, foolishly and recklessly spending money, effort and time to live an extravagant life. Through this parable, our Lord shows the extravagant love of the Father towards sinners. At the same time, Jesus rebukes the pride of the Pharisees who trust in their deeds and hate the doctrine of Justification by grace and by faith.

This is the story: The younger son got tired of home, of submitting to his father. He asked for his inheritance. According to the Jewish law, the senior son takes 2/3 of all the father has, including the land and the house. The younger son takes 1/3 of the movable property. A father can divide his property and give it to his sons only if he is on his dying bed. No father gives his property to his children when he is still healthy and strong. The father did not beg his son to stay. He gave him what he wanted. The younger son goes abroad and wastes all his money. This “far country” can be called “Forgetfulness of God”. But the day came when the money was finished. All his friends abandoned him and ‘nobody gave him anything’. He is forced to take the lowest job he can find. To feed swine. At his lowest point in his life, he comes to himself. Here we see that sin is like madness. Here you see the power of Grace. The light of the Gospel shines in his mind. He remembers his father and his Love. He plans to say: Make me your servant… The change is dramatic. This boy is not the same anymore. From Give me… to Make me! He rises from dirt and starts to walk home. His father sees him first and runs towards him. He is too weak to run. The Father embraces and kisses him until he washes all his sins away. This kissing Agape Love has encouraged millions of sinners to come back to God. The Father re-instates his son to full sonship status. He removes his rags and puts on him the best robe of righteousness of Christ. He came bare feet. The father gives him sandals. At that time only the wealthy had sandals. The slaves walked with bare feet. The father gives him the signet ring, the sign of authority as son. The father kills the fattened calf, kept for special celebrations. The house is filled with joy, for this son was once lost and now he is found; was once dead in sins and now he became alive in Christ. Halleluiah!

The older brother gets angry. He refuses to enter the house of God. He hates the fragrance of Grace and the sound of joy. He has been in the house laboring for many years. But he has never loved the sinners. He has never caught the vision of the Father. He is a symbol of the religious unbelievers, the Pharisees. They hate Grace. The parable ends abruptly. Jesus does not tell us what happened to the older brother. There are two possibilities: he too repented of his hypocrisy and became saved, or he killed (Crucified) his father!

LESSONS:

*The intercession of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Intercessor and High Priest in heaven, never fails to bring backsliders home.

*Pride is a terrible sin. Pride is defined as the desire to live independent from God. The prodigal son was proud, but God humbled him.

*Don’t be wise in your eyes. Do not walk away from God, from your parents, and from church.

*Don’t be wasteful! Wealth without God’s wisdom ends in poverty and disgrace.

*Be careful when making friends. There are many so-called ‘fair-weather-friends’ but very few who are faithful to you in times of poverty.

*The world does not satisfy your soul. God and His Grace is enough! God loves sinners! He shows them Mercy and Grace!

*Genuine repentance is the only way for a sinner to have peace with God. A child should make his parents happy and not sad.

*Be jealous over your Christian testimony! You can’t buy or earn God’s Love. Salvation is by Grace alone!

*This is a warning against legalism: the older son thinks that because he works hard, his father owes him money. This is an example of the wrong doctrine of trying to be saved by doing good work. He hates Mercy and Grace. He hates it when sinners repent and come home.

*No matter how far you have gone away from God, come home! Father’s Agape Love never fails! Worship the Lord!

THE PRAYER OF JESUS (1)/GLORY! GLORY!

THE PRAYER OF JESUS (1)

Our Lord prayed often. He was God and equal with God the Father. As Man on earth, He depended on prayer to maintain His relationship with God. He prayed when He was alone (Matt 14:23), when He was in public (Jn 11:41,42), before meals (Mk 8:6), before making important decisions – like choosing His disciples (Lk 6:12), before healing men (Mk 7:34), after healing men (Lk 5:16), after declaring judgment on unbelieving cities (Matt 11:25,26), before feeding the 5000 and the 4000 (Jn 6:11; Mk 8:6,7), before walking on water (Matt 14:23), before Peter calls Him “the Christ” (Lk 9:18), at the Transfiguration (Lk 9:28,29), at the return of the seventy who were successful in ministry (Lk 10:21), Before teaching His disciples how to pray (Lk 11:1), before raising Lazarus from the dead (Lk 11:41,42), when laying His hands on children (Matt 19:13-15), at the Lord’s supper (Lk 22:19), prayed for Peter when Satan asked to sift him like wheat (Lk 22:31,32). He prayed for Himself, His disciples and all believers just before He went to the Garden of Gethsemane (Jn 17:1-26). He prayed three times in the Garden of Gethsemane to do the Father’s will, to become sin on behalf of the believers and to die for them (Matt 26:36-46). He prayed right after being nailed to the cross “Father forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Lk 23:34). While on the Cross He prayed: “My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matt 27:46). As He was dying Jesus prayed: “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit” (Lk 23:46). The resurrected Christ prayed a blessing on the bread He ate with some disciples (Lk 24:30). He blessed His disciples before His ascension to heaven (Lk 24:50-53). He is now praying and interceding as our great High Priest in Heaven (Heb 7:20-28; 8:1,2). Hallelujah! If prayer is essential to Jesus, how much more we need to pray?

By God’s Grace, led by the Holy Spirit, we shall study this prayer of Jesus in John 17:1-26. We shall learn more about His Person. Most Christians call the prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13 “The Lord’s prayer”. But that prayer is a pattern of prayer for the disciples to learn how to pray. Jesus could not have prayed that prayer because it contained the words: “And forgive us our sins…” Jesus did not sin and did not need forgiveness. In John 17 we have the actual prayer of Jesus. Jesus prayed but with few exceptions, we are not told the exact words He used in His prayers. But here we listen to His very words of prayer. Many pastors avoid preaching about this prayer. They say that the words between God the Son and God the Father are too holy for men to preach. But the words are recorded here in the Bible. By praying audibly, Jesus wanted the words to be recorded by John and that we should study them. We see how Jesus prays! In this prayer the word “Father” appears 6 times; “the world” appears 17 times; “Glory”, 9 times; “Love”, 4 times; the word “given”, 14 times; and the word “sent”, 7 times.

This prayer is called the Holy of holies of the Bible. John 17 is the holiest chapter in the Bible. We are invited into the Throne Room of God. The secret place of the Most High God is open to us.  Many Bible Commentators say that this is the greatest prayer on earth following the greatest sermon preached on earth (John, chapters 14-16). These chapters include the Last Supper, Judas betrayal, Jesus’ teachings on love and the coming of the Holy Spirit, and His prayer for unity among His followers. Jesus is preparing His disciples for what comes ahead. He will be betrayed by one of them and die on a cross. Jesus is telling them that it is better for Him to die and leave them. The Holy Spirit will come in His name and fill them. Jesus will live in them by the Holy Spirit. That is a closer relationship with Him than the one they have right now. This is called the High Priestly Prayer of our Lord. He prayed to God the Father just before going to the Garden of Gethsemane and to the Cross. This prayer is a pattern of His intercession ministry in heaven. As the Great High Priest and Advocate, Jesus sustains us from heaven and gives great encouragement and joy to all believers, to continue to run the race to the end. Amen!

“Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You” (Jn 17:1). Jesus lifted His eyes to heaven… This is the classical position of prayer in the Jewish culture. It shows humility, reverence, total openness to God and expectation for an answer to the prayer. The first word Jesus speaks is “Father”. It shows the intimate relationship and unity between Him and God. He then says: “The hour has come”. This hour is the time for crucifixion, resurrection and glorification. It is God’s perfect timing. This is a reminder that Jesus was always aware of the plan of salvation. Everything in His life was done according to God’s will and plan.

He then prays: “Glorify Your Son”. He tells the Father that He should reveal His glory and authority thru the events that will soon happen. The time of Jesus’ humiliation, hiding in a body of flesh is over. From this moment on, the glory of God the Son manifest. To the world, the Cross may look like a tragedy. But the glory of God will forever shine thru it, revealing the Love that never fails. The Father will be glorified too. The mutual glorification of both the Father and the Son shows the unity of purpose in the plan of salvation. Jesus prays for strength to fulfill God’s plan to the end. He will become Sin on behalf of the sinners. He asks for God’s glory to be revealed thru His greatest humility and shame at the Cross, demonstrating The Father’s perfect Justice and perfect Love.

God’s glory is defined as the beauty and power of His Spirit. This beauty is not visible or material. It is spiritual. Glory is not an attribute of God. Glory is part of God. It is the beauty of His character. Man’s beauty and glory (honor) passes away. God’s glory never fades. The glory of God is revealed best in His Son Jesus Christ. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (Jn 1:14). Praise the Lord!

Jesus is very confident of His relationship with God. He calls God “Father” six times in this prayer. He also calls God “Holy Father” and “Righteous Father”. God is Holy. He hates sin. He is different than His creation. God is righteous. He never makes mistakes. Everything He does is good, right and perfect. God is always faithful. This is the confidence of Jesus as He prays. It should be our confidence too.

The prayer has three parts: Jesus prays for Himself (Jn17:1-5); for His disciples (Jn17:6-19); and for the future believers, including us (Jn 17:20-26). Most of the prayer is dedicated to intercession for His disciples. In the prayer we see that the plan of salvation was made before the foundation of the World. God the Father designed the plan. Jesus Christ executed it. The Holy Spirit applies it to our hearts so that we may believe it and obey it. The revelation that we are included in this mighty salvation is a great source of peace, joy, and confidence. We are not ordinary random people. We are elected and chosen by God to become children of God and live eternally. The very idea that Jesus Christ is praying for us right now, is the greatest source of hope for the future and gives us the assurance of salvation!

We have the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John to tell us the many wonderful things Jesus was doing on earth. But we have only one chapter to tell us what Jesus has been doing for the past 2000 years, and what He is doing right now. That is why the study of this chapter is so important. Here we see Christ glorified doing intercession for us right now. It is basically a prayer for Glory, He asks the Father to give Him His glory, and to give His disciples His glory. Jesus did not ask for the glory that was not His. He asks the Father to give Him back the glory that was always His. The relationship between Jesus and the Father is that of a total Trust and Loving care. Jesus prays for God’s glory to be revealed. He prays that God the Father will fulfill all His promises and seal all the work Jesus has done on earth. In this prayer we see the Humility of Jesus in a new way. Jesus is God. He has all powers. He has created everything. But in this prayer, we see Him as Man. He has suffered rejection and soon, He will die on the Cross. He prays to God the Father to seal His work done on earth and to glorify His Person. Jesus totally depends on God the Father now. How much we need God to bless our work too!

LESSONS:

*DO ALL FOR THE GLORY OF GOD! “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1Cor 10:31).

*PRAY THAT GOD ESTABLISHES THE WORK OF YOUR HANDS

“Return, O Lord! How long? And have compassion on Your servants. 14 Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy, That we may rejoice and be glad all our days! 15 Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, The years in which we have seen evil. 16 Let Your work appear to Your servants, And Your glory to their children. 17 And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us and establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands” (Ps 90:13-17).

Believers know that God’s presence makes the difference. We always need God’s mercy. We remember that God is merciful and loving. We pray for revival. The world may give pleasures, but it can never satisfy our hearts. Only God can satisfy. We need God early. This is the call for a fresh hope. Like the Israelites waited each morning for manna to come from heaven, we wait for God’s new mercies daily. Satisfaction in God manifests as joy and peace. God is sovereign. He has allowed us to suffer for a time. The pain was to help us, to humble us. But that pain is not forever. Like Job, who suffered but God blessed him at last, we too depend on God who can change the circumstances in a second. Pray not only that God removes the pain, but that thru pain you may gain wisdom and mature spiritually, to the glory of God.

God’s works are seen in creation, in salvation, provision, deliverance, and healing. God’s works reveal His glory. We pray to witness God’s miracle works that our children may know the power and glory of God. May God’s Grace, His unmerited Favor be revealed to us. We need God to bless the work of our hands. We may work but only God gives increase and godly success. Without God, all our efforts are in vain. True fulfilment and satisfaction in our work is done only when our work aligns with God’s will for us. Christ prayed that God glorifies Himself in His work for man’s salvation on earth. Grace is essential for any form of success, spiritual or material. The work of our hands is not just about productivity but about fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives. We are called to align our efforts with His will, ensuring that our work has eternal significance. Just as the Israelites depended on God in the wilderness, we must rely on Him to guide and establish our paths. This dependence fosters a deeper relationship with God and a greater understanding of His plans for us. The establishment of our work by God ensures that it has a lasting impact. We should strive to leave a legacy that reflects God’s glory and advances His kingdom.

*LEAVE A GOOD NAME AS INHERITANCE

“The memory of the righteous [person] is a blessing, But the name of the wicked will [be forgotten and] rot [like a corpse]” (PV10:7; AMP). “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. 16 The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth” (Ps 34:15,16).

The righteous are God’s children who obey His Commands and use their resources to do good to people. The wicked are the unbelievers. They are selfish and morally corrupt. They oppose God and His people.

God is actively opposed to evil. His justice is not passive. In Ancient times, a good name, a godly testimony left behind was the best treasure your descendants can inherit. The righteous men leave behind a good name, a godly memory that will continue to influence generations of come. People like Apostle Paul continue to influence people through his writings and godly life.

The worse punishment is that God destroys your memory. Sin leads to separation from God and to eternal death. People will forget the wicked man. The name of the unbeliever will rot like a corpse; it will be “cut off”. It will bring shame to the family. The wicked are forgotten or remembered for bad, because they did not do good deeds, they did not use their resources to help others, to the glory of God. The name of Judas Iscariot will always be associated with wickedness, betrayal and eternal death. This reflects the punishment given to the wicked at the last judgment. This is the revelation of the holiness and justice of God.

At the Cross, Jesus died on behalf of sinners. Those who have faith in Christ Crucified, shall be saved. Those who reject the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross, must bear their own punishment. One way for that punishment to be revealed is that God will totally eradicate that person’s name. This is also a warning to the believers to avoid evil and the company of wicked men. “Bad company corrupts good manners” (1Cor 15:33). Be sure to surround yourself with godly people. Protect your testimony as a Christian. Invest in eternal treasures. Worship the Lord!

REJOICE IN GOD

REJOICE IN GOD

“For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation” (Rom 5:10,11). Apostle Paul proved that we are justified by Grace only, by faith only and by the shed Blood of Jesus on the Cross. Now, he adds that we are saved by the Life of Jesus. He refers to the eternal office of Jesus in heaven, as our Great High Priest, Intercessor, Advocate and Mediator of a better covenant. He says that reconciliation leads to our “rejoicing in God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. The end of salvation is always joy. All true believers rejoice in God. This rejoicing is done through the Lord Jesus Christ. The revelation of the relationship between the Person of God the Father and God the Son, and how they saved us, always leads to joy. A Christian who is always sad has a serious problem with understanding the Word of God. Joy is a fruit and a command from God! Rejoice!

The same word ‘rejoice’ also translated as ‘glory’ or ‘boasting’, appears in verse 2. What is the difference between “Rejoicing in the hope of the glory of God” and “rejoicing in God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom 5:2,11). Rejoicing in the hope of the glory of God means that we have the assurance of salvation. We boast about our final salvation, knowing that we are already citizens of heaven, and one day we shall arrive there. This sure hope leads to us boasting of our place in heaven. But the second type of rejoicing is even greater than that. We rejoice not only of our hope in heaven, but we rejoice in God Himself, of knowing God. He is not only our Creator, but our everlasting Father, who sent His only begotten Son to die for us, so that we become His children. We boast of God, of His attributes. God is Love. He is the Faithful God, the only wise God. Heaven for us is more than a wonderful place with streets of gold. Heaven is heaven because it is God’s dwelling place. We want to go to heaven not so much to meet our family members who are already there, but especially to see God face to face and to worship Him forever! God is the source of the eternal glorious joy in the believer!

This is the first question in the Westminster Shorter Catechism: “Question: What is the purpose of man? Answer: The purpose of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever”. What does it mean to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever? We give glory to God by enjoying Him. How do we enjoy God? Think about things that you enjoy… For example, do you enjoy your marriage? Then you like to be seen with your spouse, you talk about your husband (your wife). Do you enjoy your job? You will talk about your job, your promotion, or the things you do in your office. It is the same with enjoying God. If you truly enjoy God, you will not stop talking about God. You glorify God by hating sin and living right. You are careful not to grieve the Holy Spirit. You reflect God’s glory by living a godly life. You become filled with the Holy Spirit. Joy is the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22). You become a mirror for the glory of God. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2Cor 3:18). You glorify God by preaching and teaching God’s Word. You live a life of Love, genuinely loving God and others.

To enjoy God means to recognize Him as your First Love. “Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. 26 My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Ps 73:25,26). God is unique. Nobody compares with Him. He is the source of life, salvation, and all the good gifts we have. Heaven is God’s dwelling place, a realm that is separated from the earth. The believer declares that even on earth, he loves God above all other things. God is the ultimate source of fulfilment, joy and satisfaction. Search your heart and see: where do you try to find satisfaction in life? True contentment is found in God alone. Earthly desires can never fully satisfy the soul’s deepest longings. Invest in a deep relationship with God thru the study of God’s Word. Meditate upon His promises. Study the doctrines until you have a personal revelation of the truth. One of the greatest hindrances to joy is doubt in the doctrine of justification by faith and trust in Jesus Christ our Great High Priest. For as long as you depend on your good works to enter heaven, you will be anxious and cannot have the fulness of joy. Doubt is a joy killer. It is not enough to hear the pastor preaching a sermon. Study the doctrines by yourself until the light of God shines in your understanding. Selah!

RECONCILIATION BETWEEN MEN

RECONCILIATION BETWEEN MEN (Matthew 5:21-26)

Reconciliation between God and man was paid with the Blood of Jesus. Even reconciliation between men is also paid by the death of Jesus on the Cross. Faith in Christ crucified and resurrected is the only foundation for true reconciliation between men who were once enemies.

This passage is taken from the Sermon of the Mount, preached by Christ Himself. He exposes the wrong understanding of the Pharisees concerning God’s Law. He then preaches the correct way to interpret God’s Law. In this passage, the Pharisees said: ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ It looks good on the surface. They quoted one of the Ten Commandments: “Thou shalt not kill” (Exo 20:13; KJ). What is wrong? They added to God’s Law. They said, “whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment”. They refer to the judgment of the court. By adding this sentence, they weakened the original Commandment. They made it to be more a matter of justice among men than the judgment of God. They removed God from His Law. It was for their interest. Their thinking was that for as long as they did not actually kill a person, they have obeyed God’s Law and God is pleased with them. They obeyed legalistically and totally ignored the spirit of the Law. Clearly, they did not know the God who wrote the Law.

“But I say to you that everyone who continues to be angry with his brother or harbors malice against him shall be guilty before the court; and whoever speaks [contemptuously and insultingly] to his brother, ‘Raca (You empty-headed idiot)!’ shall be guilty before the supreme court (Sanhedrin); and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of the fiery hell” (Matt 5:22; AMP). Our Lord says that not only the criminal who kills a human being is guilty of murder. He says that causeless anger against any human being, and especially against a Christian, is equal with murder. It means that murder starts in the heart. It may not manifest in physical killing, but for as long as that anger, bitterness and grudge stays in the heart, God calls it murder. The heart is the source of evil. “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies” (Matt 15:18,19). The Lord joins evil thoughts and murders. In any way you despise a person in your heart, you have killed that one. Also, murder is not just physical killing. Anger can destroy someone’s joy, peace, reputation, or favor with men.

Showing contempt for another leads to murder. Telling someone “Raca” (meaning you worthless fellow, you empty headed idiot) is a crime. You are in danger of being judged by the Sanhedrin, the supreme Court in Israel at that time. If a man calls another “You fool” is in danger of being judged by God. A fool is not just one who is silly but one who rejects God (Ps 14:1). Telling someone “you are a fool” it means that you are saying “you go to hell”. Insulting another person is judged by God more serious than we imagine. Bitterness in the heart manifests as insults. Is anger always wrong? Jesus insulted the Pharisees and even called them “fools”. How do we reconcile these commands? Let us not forget that Jesus is the Savior of those who believe. The Pharisees rejected Him and His grace of salvation. Jesus is rejecting them totally, sending them to hell. He speaks as a Judge in the court. This is what He said in His High Priestly prayer: “You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him” (Jn 17:2). Jesus has authority over all men to send anyone to hell fire. He gives eternal life only to those who believe in Him, whom the Father has given to Him.

But we are not Jesus. When we get angry, we should be careful not to cross some boundaries. “BE ANGRY [at sin—at immorality, at injustice, at ungodly behavior], YET DO NOT SIN; do not let your anger [cause you shame, nor allow it to] last until the sun goes down. And do not give the devil an opportunity [to lead you into sin by holding a grudge, or nurturing anger, or harboring resentment, or cultivating bitterness]” (Eph 4:26,27; AMP). Anger is not a sin. It is a human emotion. Jesus always displayed righteous anger. It is a warning to control your emotion of anger. It is the duty of the believer to restrain his anger. Do not give the devil an opportunity” means that believers have the power to cooperate with the devil or to reject him. Sinful anger is a choice. We need to be soberminded. Understanding the devil’s strategy is vital in doing warfare. A foothold is a spiritual secure area that the devil can occupy, from which he can make further progress if not addressed. Tolerating the devil will lead the believer into greater compromise. Anger and bitterness are open doors to evil spirits to harm your character and testimony. Resisting the devil requires total submission to God’s will, God’s guidance and strength. “So, submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you” (James 4:7; AMP). The root of anger will become bitterness that leads to murder. Be angry against sin but never against the sinner. Solve your problems as fast as possible. Do not let anger stay in the heart to become bitterness. Do not use anger to avenge yourself. Anger that is too hot or lasts too long gives a place for the devil to enter and it becomes a sin to be judged by God. When angry, remember God. Forgive others! Guard your heart! Pray!

Anger blocks the way to worship. That is the greatest danger. It is not enough to say that you are not angry anymore. You need to take positive steps to reconcile with an offended person and make peace with him. God is the Judge of all. Confess your sins to one another. Pray for one another. As much as it is in your power, seek peace with all men. Do not delay. Fear God! Honor God! No anger is worth keeping when the price to pay is losing the privilege of worship. Selah!!!

GOD MEANT IT FOR GOOD

GOD MEANT IT FOR GOOD (Genesis 50:15-21)

This is a touching scene. Jacob lived in Egypt for 17 years. He made Joseph promise that once he dies, he should carry his body back to the Promised Land. He was 147 years old when he died. Joseph and his brothers carried his body to Canaan. They buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the same place with Leah, his wife and with his ‘fathers’, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebeccah. The death or Jacob ends an era. After that, Joseph’s brothers became afraid that Joseph would punish them for the sin they committed against him many years ago. They assumed that Joseph hates them “for the evil” they did against him. They sent messengers to Joseph asking for mercy and forgiveness. Joseph called them and wept in their presence. He was not ashamed to show his deep emotions of love towards them. Why was he hurt? Because after all these years, the brothers still did not believe that he has truly forgiven them. They assumed that Joseph was pretending to forgive them because their father was still alive. But now, they assumed that finally, Joseph would punish them. In their hearts, they thought that Joseph is a hypocrite. The truth is that they had issues with forgiving themselves and they projected their doubts upon Joseph. They were afraid of Joseph. They still did not love him. That hurt Joseph. “There is no fear in love [dread does not exist]. But perfect (complete, full-grown) love drives out fear, because fear involves [the expectation of divine] punishment, so the one who is afraid [of God’s judgment] is not perfected in love [has not grown into a sufficient understanding of God’s love]” (1Jn 4:18; AMP). This painful situation gives Joseph a wonderful occasion to re-assure them of his total forgiveness, done for the sake of God. Here you see the spiritual maturity of Joseph. You see why God chose him from among his brothers to promote him to the highest office in the land.

Joseph is a symbol of Christ glorified, our Great High Priest. Study the way He speaks to His brothers and be encouraged too! He says:

*Do not be afraid! It is true that Joseph has the power to hurt them, but he loves them. He encourages his brothers not to be afraid of him. Lesson: if you have forgiven someone, you will not intimidate him with the memory of the past! You encourage him to be strong and do not fear punishment! As our Great High Priest, Jesus intercedes for the believer in heaven. His love continues. There is no fear in Love!

*Am I in the place of God? Joseph is truly humble. He tells his brothers that his high position in Egypt does not make him God to them. Joseph does not use his authority to intimidate his brothers. Joseph loved and respected his father, Jacob. He did not want to hurt him. But Jacob was now dead. He could have punished his brothers. But he has already forgiven them, not for the sake of Jacob, but for the sake of God! “Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord” (Rom 12:19). When you remain humble in the place of promotion, your forgiveness and love towards your enemies is genuine. God will vindicate you. The Great High Priest in heaven, our Lord Jesus Christ, “did not consider it robbery to be equal with God” (Phil 2:6). God Himself promoted Him to be the only authorized intercessor and mediator of the New Covenant between man and God.

*You meant evil against me! Joseph could not have used this word. But this is what they said. They helped him tell the truth. Sin does damage. The truth is that his brothers’ jealousy and wickedness could have killed him. It brought depression to their father for many years and damaged their relationship with Joseph. Sin is always evil. Sin is designed to kill, steal and destroy. Sin must be hated! “You who love the LORD, hate evil!” (Ps 97:10). “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good” (Rom 12:9; NIV). You don’t tolerate sin! You don’t ignore evil. You expose it, confess it, repent from it, and move on, walking by faith and love! Forgiveness does not mean forgetfulness. The Great High Priest carries the scars on His hands as a reminder of what sin on earth did to Him. That is why as the Great High Priest, Jesus can now help us when we fall into sin. Praise His Holy Name!

*God meant it for good! Joseph believed the revelation given by God to him thru dreams as a young man. God chose him from among his brothers to make him their leader and Savior. God was with him during his troubles. God brought him to the place of promotion, honoured him, not for his benefit, but to save his family which later became the nation called Isreal. Joseph has seen the hand of God in his life. That gave him peace and joy during his trials. That is how he truly forgave his brothers, not for their sakes, but for the sake of God. Love sees God in all things. The unbelievers, when they suffer, get angry and bitter. They are spiritually blind. They do not see any good coming out of trouble. That is why they insult and punish those who hurt them. But the believers are different. They see God working for their good. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom 8:28).

*Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones. And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them! Joseph encouraged them with kind words. He promised to continue to take care of them, to provide and protect them for as long as he lives. He kept his promise. Lesson: true forgiveness is not just an isolated act. It is a lifestyle. It produces fruits of kindness and good behaviour. Our Great High Priest continues to help us live godly and saves us to the uttermost. Glory to God!

Finally, reconciliation always points to glory! Peace leads to promotion! We see that Jesus, in His office as our eternal Intercessor, has the power to help us finish the race and reach heaven. He saves us by His eternal Life! In this life, we are tempted by sin, the world and by the devil. But Jesus defeated all of them on the Cross. Our Great High Priest is able to prevent us from falling into sin and to deliver us in case we fall. “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, 25 To God our Savior, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen” (Jude 1:24, 25). Worship the Lord!

I HAVE CHOSEN THAT GOOD PART

“One thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her” (Lk 10:42)

From this story I have also learned that I don’t need to be ‘a great woman of God’ to be able to worship my Lord. I am a woman like Mary; no problem with that. I should not desire a complicated religious life ‘cumbered’ with robes, caps, titles and ceremonies! I desire the simplicity of Christ! Free in Him!

When I enter a house, or a church, I spiritually ‘scan’ the atmosphere searching for my Lord. I do not look for men, no matter how rich or famous they are. My soul is attracted only by my Lord. Most of the time, I find Him in humble places and among humble people. I find a place where my soul can rest and listen to His voice. Gossip makes me tired. The Word of God makes me happy. I go to a place where I am happy. I do not pretend to just please people. If Jesus is not in that ‘inn’, then I go out. The presence of God the Holy Spirit is like spiritual oxygen for me. In its absence I gasp for air like a fish outside water.

I have learned that if I sit down at the feet of Jesus, ‘big religious people’ will look down on me. They will criticize and try to intimidate me. I have learned to keep quiet. How can I argue with a blind man? My Lover will defend my choice of Him. My Lord will fight my battles. It has happened again and again. I have learned that my choice to locate the feet of Jesus is blessed by Him. I become like ‘a landlady’ of that little ‘holy ground’. Once I locate my place of worship, I lose the fear a tenant has. This is the spot under which my treasure lies forever. I cannot be condemned, fired, divorced or rejected out of my destiny! I learned to be confident of my calling. I know that no tenant can evict the landlady, and no maid can replace the mistress who is faithful to God and to her husband. I have discovered the power of humility, the freedom of worship and the grace of His glory revealed in me. The effort and the pain necessary to abide in that holy safe and happy place cannot be compared with the joy of resting in His embrace. This is my Lover; this is my Friend! My Lord and my Savior Jesus Christ!

COUNT THE STARS OF LOVE

COUNT THE STARS OF LOVE (Genesis 12:1-3; 15:1-6)

Faith is defined as a human response to a divine promise. Faith is an expectation, a quiet assurance that a person will do exactly as he said he would do. Abraham believed God’s promises. He is the Father of faith of all who believe!

God’s Word to Adam was that he can eat ‘freely’ from every tree in the Garden except one (Gen 2:16,17). The word ‘freely’ means ‘unconditionally’, without limitations or outside control. This reveals the goodness and generosity of God. He wants men to enjoy His blessings. When the devil asked Eve about eating for every tree in the garden, he omitted the word ‘freely’. When Eve answered him, she also omitted the word ‘freely’ (Gen 3:1,2). The devil insinuated that God is stingy with His blessings. He attacked the character of God as Lovingly kind and generous. Since then, the devil has tried to destroy our faith in a Generous God. Men think of God as someone who is always asking us to give to Him. That is a big lie, but many Christians think like that. Listen to the way the servant who received one talent spoke to his master: “Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was afraid and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours” (Matt 25:24,25). Once you believe that God is a taker and not a giver, doubt and fear to trust God will enter your heart. This is what happened to Abraham.

God comes and promises Abraham to protect Him, reward Him and give Him many children as the stars in the sky (Gen 15:1-6). Abraham addresses God as “Lord God”. This is a combination of two names of God: Jehovah Adonai. Jehovah is the personal name of God, the covenant keeping God, the One who promises and keeps His Word. The word Adonai means the Master of slaves. He takes complete responsibility over His people. He is the Lord! Jesus found us in the salve market and bought us with His Blood. We are now His bondslaves or servants. Adonai is our Lord! Jesus is Lord! The name Adonai requires our total submission to His will and His ways.

God has already promised Abraham that He will make him a blessing to all the nations on the earth (Gen 12:1-3). But because Abraham is old and has no child, he starts to doubt the promise. This shows how much we desire visible blessings and struggle to simply have faith in God’s Word. Even the elect struggle with doubts and fears. Like Adam, Abraham fell for the lie of the Devil. He asked God: “What will You give me… You have not given me…”. Faith believes in a Giving God! Doubt believes that God is stingy! Selah!

God confronts Abraham’s fear, doubt and self-pity and gives him a fresh Word about an old promise. In the olden days, if a man has no children, he will leave his wealth to a chosen and faithful servant he has adopted in his house. Abraham has found such a servant in Eliezer of Damascus. Abraham is disappointed that God did not give him a son. We know that children are God’s Reward for obedience and service (Psalm 127:3-5). Abraham feels that God has not rewarded him, has not compensated him, has not giving him his salary, according to His Word. But God tells him clearly that he will have his own son who will inherit his name and wealth. Isaac was conceived supernaturally and born to old parents. He is the son of promise. All people who have faith like Abraham are now his descendants. The total population today is about 8 billion. The descendants of Abraham include the Jews, the Muslims and the Christians. The Jews are about 16 million. Muslims are 1,8 Billion. The Christians are 2,3 Billion. We are not even counting all the people who have died. This shows that God’s promise to Abraham that His descendants will be like the stars in the sky, has come to pass. These are the stars of Love. God is faithful! Amen!

LESSONS

*God is a God of personal relationships, of revelation. He guides and teaches His children thru dreams, visions and especially by His Word.

*Reject all fears of the future. Fear is an enemy to faith. God protects His people. In times of fear, remember Jehovah God, your Shield!

*Reject self-pity! Pray that God will confirm the old promise given to you.

*Reject doubt! God will give you signs that He is the God of heaven and earth. Like Abraham, remove your eyes from yourself and your problems, and look up to the stars. Remember how small you are and how big God is! Your faith in God will be strengthen!

*God promises to be the Reward of His children. All blessings, spiritual and material, are found in a Person: the Lord Jesus Christ!

*Abram had God and wealth. But he was fixated on his lack. Be grateful for what you have before you pray for more!

*God’s Presence and Grace is enough for you!

*Come out of your tent of limitations! Look up, on the sky! Count the uncountable stars of Love!

*Abram asked for little! God had so much more to give to him! Stop limiting God!

*God rewards Faith as Righteousness, with the Presence of God and a fulfilled life! Salvation is by faith alone! Faith is not based on feelings! Many people say: ‘I don’t feel like I have faith…’, they say. But faith has nothing to do with feelings and takes no account of moods or physical conditions. Feelings come and go, rise and fall, but faith endures and perseveres, because it does not look to any human source for help. The object of faith is God alone and His Word. The Christian, who believes that the risen Christ now lives within his heart, confidently expects Christ to work through him. Christ will not necessarily be felt in an emotional way, but He is present. He makes your ordinary actions to produce extraordinary results. He takes common relationships and transforms them into uncommon accomplishments.

*Develop Faith and Patience! We must trust God’s promises and God’s timing to fulfill them. Patience is a virtue that we must learn. It is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. Our faith rests in God’s Word and His faithfulness and not in our own understanding. Practicing faith and patience are both vital in Christian life. “Do not become sluggish but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises” (Heb 6:12).

*God is the God of Promises! Abram was 75 years when God called him and promised him to make him a father of many nations! He was 86 when Ishamel was born and 100 years old (and Sarah was 90) when Isaac was born. Abram waited 25 years for the promise to come to pass!  A promise is a solemn declaration, a pledge, a vow, that a person will do something in the future. A Promise is a legally binding declaration that gives the person to whom it is made a right to expect or to claim the performance, to hope for success or improvement in life. There are more than 8000 promises in the Bible. God expects us to trust Him, to believe His, no matter how long it takes before it is fulfilled. “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us” (2Cor 1:20). God has made many promises to Abraham, Moses, David and others. He had promised to send the Messiah. Jesus came to earth as Man. These promises are about spiritual and material blessings, salvation and eternal life. All these promises are found and are fulfilled in Christ alone. We can access these promises only thru faith in Christ. The unbelievers cannot trust God for His promises. Only believers can say ‘Amen’. Believers recognize God’s sovereignty and power, and they praise Him. The fulfilment of His promises is for the good of man and for the glory of God! Our legacy is not just about physical descendants but about spiritual impact. Focus on a life that honors God and influences others for His kingdom. The manifestation of miracles, agape love, and the resurrection power gives glory to The Lord Jesus Christ in the Church! Let the stars of love shine in the darkness! Worship the Lord!

LOVING THE WEAK

LOVING THE WEAK

“For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly” (Rom 5:6). God’s Love manifested openly when God the Father sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the Cross to save the sinners. Salvation in Christ was revealed when “we were without strength”. This describes the state of humanity. Sin weakens and kills. God designed the plan of salvation even before He created Adam and Eve. God alone knows the future. God knew that they would fall into sin. The plan of salvation is not an afterthought. It was designed by God even before the devil tempted Adam to disobey God. God the Son, Jesus Christ, has agreed to become Man and to die for sinful men. Jesus is called “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Rev 13:8). This plan of salvation is totally the product of Love.

What does it mean that Christ for those “without strength”? For about four thousand years, men lived in sin. God gave His Law thru Moses. The Law revealed what sin is, but the Law could not save men from sin because men were too weak to obey it. Men needed a Savior. God waited so long so that men will have enough time to try saving themselves. All the great philosophers tried their best to explain and defeat sin. The greatest were the Greek Philosophers. They knew that something is wrong with man. They described the sinful tendency of man to destroy himself. But they could find the cure for sin. At last, men declared defeat. They agreed that they could not save themselves. Men “were dead in trespasses and sins” (Eph 2:1). Men were spiritually dead. Their spirit was dead. Their minds were in darkness. “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1Cor 2:14). That is why they were powerless to help themselves.

What does it mean Christ died “in due time”? God the Father sent His Son into the world at a particular time. “But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved). 6 and raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Eph 2:4-9). The coming of Jesus to earth is an act of pure Love, Mercy and Grace. God sent His Son into this world at the right time. “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons” (Gal 4:4,5). God’s work is still a mystery. “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end” (Ecc 3:11). At the time when Jesus was born, the world was in relative peace. The Roman Empire had control over the world at that time. “Pax Romana” was the period of about 200 years (1st and 2nd centuries, AD) when there was minimal military expansion, prosperity and peace. The Romans saw peace not just as absence of war, but as the rare situation when all opponents had been beaten down and lost their ability to resist. Ceasar Augustus persuaded the Romans that the prosperity they could achieve in the absence of war was better for the Empire than the potential wealth and honor acquired when fighting a risky war. Jesus was born during that time. The early church grew, and the Gospel spread faster because of the peace and prosperity in the Roman Empire. Lesson: God never makes mistakes! Trust His plan and the timing of events.

What does it mean that “Christ died for the ungodly”? This is the heart of the Gospel. If Jesus died for some good, religious people, that is easier to understand. But Jesus came to earth and died on the Cross to save the ungodly, the sinners, those who are wicked, who hate God, and are morally corrupt. This is the demonstration of Love at its best. No other religion or philosophy preaches Love as the source of salvation like the Bible. Just to compare: The word ‘love’ in the Quaran appears 93x. The word ‘love’ appears 759X in the Bible (NLT). The Gospel is the only hope for sinners, for the wicked and the lost. That is why it is the greatest good news to man.

Who are these ungodly people that Christ died for? The whole world was in sin. There was no one good, no one righteous, none seeking God. To be ungodly means to be the opposite of God. In the beginning God has made man after His image and likeness (Gen 1:26). Man is spirit, because God is Spirit. God honored man in a special way by creating him to resemble Him. Man was made the lord of creation. The glory of God was upon man. But when he sinned, that image was not lost, but it was badly damaged. Man lost the authority and dominion given to him by God. God’s glory on man faded away. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:23). Here we see that sin is universal. No matter the status in life, all men are born sinners, and all need a Savior. Sin is disobedience to God’s Law. All men ‘fall short’ of God’s standard of holiness. In Greek, ‘to fall short’ means ‘missing the mark’. Like an archer who shuts an arrow but misses the target. Sin reveals a weakness, a lack. Because he is a sinner, man cannot please God by his works. Man needs a Savior. Man cannot bring back the glory on himself. Christ came with the glory of the Father. He alone is full of God’s glory. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (Jn 1:14). It is only in Christ that man can find his lost glory. Man must repent from sin and totally surrender to Christ. There is no other way to be saved and go to heaven. Sin has damaged not only the image of God on man, but sin has destroyed his capacity to love. No sinner can love God with agape Love!

When the Bible says that Christ died for the ungodly, it does not mean that automatically all ungodly will go to heaven. All sinners must repent of sin and surrender their lives to Christ before they can benefit from the power of the Cross. Repentance means to humbly acknowledge your sin against God and man. It means to turn away from sin and turn towards God. It is a total change of mind, heart and will. It involves painful regret of offending God and breaking His Law and a commitment to change, with fruits to prove repentance. Practically, how does godly repentance manifest? First, you must take responsibility for your sins. You must confess your sins as the Prodigal son did, saying: “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son” (Lk15:21).

For as long as you say: “God, I committed sin, but…” it means that you have not repented. Justifying or excusing your sin is not godly repentance. Secondly, you must accept the consequences of your actions and do what it takes to repair the damage done. Ask God and men to forgive you. Forgive yourself. Forgive others. Repentance is necessary to heal hearts and relationships. Selah!

“Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call” (Ac 2:38,39). True repentance brings forgiveness of sins and peace with God. Then the forgiven sinner can receive the Holy Spirit. God’s Love will be poured in his heart by the Holy Spirit. John the Baptist said: “Therefore, bear fruits worthy of repentance” (Matt 3:8). Repentance must produce fruits. Repentance is not just a verbal declaration but must be accompanied by a change in behavior and actions that reflect a transformed heart. Repentance is not just a onetime event, but a lifestyle for all the children of God! Selah!

BLESSED IS HE WHO CARES FOR THE HELPLESS (PSALM 41)

“A Psalm of David. Blessed [by God’s grace and compassion] is he who considers the helpless; The LORD will save him in the day of trouble. The LORD will protect him and keep him alive; And he will be called blessed in the land; You do not hand him over to the desire of his enemies. The LORD will sustain and strengthen him on his sickbed; In his illness, You will restore him to health” (Ps 41:1-3; AMP).

Psalms were not written for times of peace, but for times of war, for times of troubles. This psalm is written by King David. It shows his deep relationship with God. David faces two formidable enemies: sickness and enemy attacks. From both revelation and experience, he knew not only God’s works, but God’s ways. To be blessed means to be happy and have God’s favor. God promises to protect, deliver and heal those who are compassionate towards the weak, helpless and needy. Sickness is evil. God’s presence is with us during sickness and all trials of life. The spiritual healing is first, before physical healing. Jesus forgave the paralyzed man before He healed his body (Mk 2:1-12). Sickness is an opportunity for seeking God, repentance, humility, and going back to Jesus, our first Love! It always ends in praise!

We must care for the needy, the poor, vulnerable, weak and helpless. This is God’s Law. Mercy and Love is expected from us. It is our responsibility to be kind and generous. Caring for the weak is not just a duty but a source of blessings. God will save those who care for the needy. This protection is both spiritual and physical, temporal and eternal. These blessings manifest ‘in the land’. This reveals God’s desire to settle His children in the Promised Land and in the spiritual land of the Kingdom of God. God is sovereign. He will not allow us to be put to shame. The enemies may fashion weapons against us, but they can never succeed. God always leads us to victory in Christ! This is a reminder that God sees our hearts and our actions. Compassion reflects God’s character to people. God blesses those who are generous, compassionate, kind, and loving. God promises rewards on earth and in heaven. Amen!

BABY MOSES SAVED BY LOVE AND FAITH

“By faith Moses, after his birth, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful and divinely favored child; and they were not afraid of the king’s (Pharaoh’s) decree” (Heb 11:23; AMP). “Now Amram took for himself Jochebed, his father’s sister, as wife; and she bore him Aaron and Moses” (Exo 6:20).

This story happened when God’s people were suffering terribly. After Joseph died, they became slaves in Egypt. Their masters forced them to work ruthlessly. The word means ‘without pity’. This oppression was designed to reduce their numbers and to kill their spirit, their hope. Many died. But God was still with them. The presence of God manifested as great fruitfulness. Their hope did not die. More children were born to them during that difficult time. “But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel” (Exo 1:12). Because of their great numbers, the Egyptians became afraid of their slaves. Pharaoh decided to reduce their number. He ordered the Hebrew midwives to kill every baby boy at birth but allow the girls to live. But the midwives disobeyed the king’s command. They feared God more than they feared man. God bless them for that. Disappointed with the midwives, Pharoah commanded that all the baby boys should be thrown into River Nile, to die. This law was an added sorrow for God’s people.

SLAVERY

Just imagine the life of a slave at that time. A slave is a human being who is owned by another human being. A slave lacks the most basic human rights. For example, a slave has no relatives. He belongs only to his master. If he is in trouble, no one can stand for him, to defend him. A slave is called ‘a socially dead person’. His owner takes all the fruit of his labor and controls his reproductive rights. A slave has no freedom of movement. Slaves were multiplied in different ways: they could be prisoners of war or kidnapped people. Poor people who owned money were sold as slaves. Some very poor parents sold their children as slaves. The number of slaves increased mostly by them having children. For slavery to exist, laws must be in place to protect it. Slavery exists when there is a shortage of labor, especially in the field of agriculture. Domestic slaves were also common. Most of the slaves were of a different race, religion or nationality than the owners. A slave was enslaved against his will. Slavery was practiced all over the world. Slaves were despised and regarded at the bottom of the social ladder. Throughout history slaves have been thought of as stupid, unteachable, lazy, liars, untrustworthy, prone to drunkenness, idle, licentious, and cowardly. Race was an important factor. For example, in Rome, where almost all the slaves and their owners were white, slaves were given freedom easier. In Africa, where both owners and slaves were black, freedom was also common. But in America, where the owners were white and the salves were black, the slaves suffered more. They were isolated and truly discriminated against. Slaves developed their own culture and religion as different from their masters. This culture helped the slaves to feel ‘free’ even during slavery.

Sin is a slave master. Sin is an addiction, a lifetime bondage. None can deliver from it except faith in Jesus! “Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (Jn 8:34-36).

Moses’ parents, Amram and Jochebed, were from the house of Levi. Both were slaves in Egypt. It must have been hard to work as slaves. They already had a daughter called Mariam and a son called Aaron. They now had a baby boy. They took a great risk to hide the baby for three months. This action proved great courage, faith and love. The parents refused to be intimidated by Pharoah. We see the hopelessness and oppression of slavery. But hope of freedom never died in the hearts of God’s people. For 400 years they dreamed that one day, a Savior would come to free them. He will take them away from Egypt and bring them into the Promised Land. When Moses was born, God answered their prayers. Everything was against Moses. The law was in force to kill every baby boy. All the Israelites were slaves. Moses was supposed to die. But he lived 120 years, becoming the Savior for God’s people. Jochebed prayed for a way out. We see here the natural love a mother has for her child. But in this case, it was more than a natural love. Jochebed saw that her baby boy was ‘beautiful’. This was not just a physical beauty. She saw the grace of God upon her child. She saw her baby as a destiny child. This sensitivity to the Holy Spirit is a manifestation of God’s Love in action. She became creative. She nursed her baby in hiding for 3 months. She then built a little basket from reeds found by the river. She covered the basked with pitch, just the way God told Noah to build the ark that saved his family. Jochebed surely explained everything to her little daughter, Mariam, how she wants to save her baby brother. Then Jochebed kissed her baby one last time, placed him in the ark, and laid it on the river. Miriam followed the basket to see what would happen. The basket was found by Pharoah’s daughter who heard the baby crying. When she saw the baby, his beautiful face touched her heart. She decided to adopt him. She called him Moses (from an Egyptian word meaning ‘drawn from the water’). Her compassion for this baby overcame the pride of her status or the fear of what her father would say. Miriam then asks the Egyptian princess if she can bring a Jewish mother to nurse the baby. She agreed. Moses’ mother comes to the palace and takes her baby back. This time, with the blessings of the royal family. She nursed Moses for about 3 years and brought him back to the palace. Moses grew in the palace as a prince of Egypt. The story just begins… At the right time, Moses becomes the Savior of Isreal. God’s plans can never fail! Praise the Lord!

LESSONS:

*God is the true hero of this story! All people in Genesis 2 are nameless. They each do God’s will. These wonderful people are anonymous. God’s Love shines like light in the darkness. He protects baby Moses until He is ready to use him. God is behind all actions. God never fails.

*God hears the prayers of the oppressed. In His time, he will deliver them!

*In case of conflict of interests, better obey God than man! Fear God! Do not fear man!

*True faith is bold, and love was creative. Jochebed made an ark like Noah’s ark to save her baby. She was not afraid of the king’s law. She loved the baby so much that she was willing to lay down her life to save her son. That is true Love!

*Faith surrenders to God. Once Jochebed fasted, and prayed for a miracle, she laid her baby in the ark and then let go of it. She trusted that God would take control. Her faith and hope were in God alone. She was not disappointed. God saved her baby and used him as a mighty man of God. Jochebed is like Hannah who gave Samuel to God. Lesson: There is a time to pray, a time to work, and there is a time to wait for God. This holy chain of pain-prayer-work-wait always ends in praise!

*Pray and prophesy over your children. Jochebed nursed her baby until he was about 3 years old. Moses grew knowing the love of his Jewish mother and the love of Jehovah God. This was the foundation for his success later in life. Teaching your child about God is the greatest gift you can give to him. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (PV22:6).

*Egypt is a type of the world. Pharoah is a type of the devil. Moses is a type of Jesus, the Savior. The exodus is a type of deliverance from the world when a sinner becomes saved. God alone knows the end from the beginning. He is sovereign overall. He revealed to Abraham that His people will be slaves and later landlords. “Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him. 13 Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. 14 And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions. 15 Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age. 16 But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete” (Gen 15:12-16). Selah!

Why did God send His people to Egypt, to save them thru Joseph and later to allow them to become slaves?

First, God disciplined them for their sin. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Gal6:7).

Their fathers sold Joseph as a slave. God is a God of justice. He promised to punish the children for the sins of their fathers, up to the fourth generation. This is God’s Law: “You shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 10 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments” (Deut 5:9,10). The way God visits the sins of the fathers upon the children is by allowing the sinful patterns of the parents to manifest in their children. For example, if parents are liars, the children imitate them and lie too.

Secondly, becoming slaves in Egypt humbled God’s people. God’s grace was now given to them. “But He gives more grace. Therefore, He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble” (Jam 4:6). God was preparing them to bless them, to become landlords in the Promised Land. Lesson: during hardships we discover our identity, responsibility and destiny in life. You must learn to pray and rejoice during times of trial and hardship. Do not seek the easy life. Seek God and the life He gives. Then other blessings shall be added to you!

The third reason why God’s people stayed in Egypt for 400 years was because the sin of the Amorites was not yet complete. Lesson: God observes our enemies too. Their sin must come to a maximum before God will intervene to save us and destroy them. God’s time is best!

*The Book of Exodus offers wonderful Hope to all generations. Every act of Love, faith and courage is important. Sacrifices made for love are rewarded by God! God shows His love thru others, even thru our enemies. God can use broken and weak people. God is faithful to all His promises. All people, even the slaves, have worth in God’s sight. In Exodus, we hear the sound of worship nobody can silence: Let My people go! In Christ alone there is hope, peace, joy, healing and deliverance from sin! Let your faith rise! The God that saved baby Moses is our God too! Nothing is impossible for our God! Have faith in God! Your pain is not forever! May your pain become prayer and praise! To the glory of God! Worship the Lord!

GOD’S LOVE POURED OUT IN OUR HEARTS

GOD’S LOVE IS POURED OUT IN OUR HEARTS

God’s love “has been abundantly poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us (Rom 5:5; AMP). The engine for this confident boast in Christ is the Love of God poured in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Love is not just a resident in the heart. Love is ‘poured out’ into the believer’s heart. Love is the only power that overflows from itself into another. This pouring is not like little drops of dew. It is abundant, generous, mighty, like Niagara fall. Love is like hot gold poured into forms to make a wonderful masterpiece. ‘To pour out’ it means to suddenly empty liquid from one container into another. It also means to openly express your feelings, after keeping quiet for a long time. It is the same with the word ‘bestowed’, which means that a greater person gives a generous gift to a lesser person.

The Holy Spirit can pour God’s Love in a sudden manner into our hearts. The heart is not just the place of emotions, but is the center of the soul, the very personality of man. It is the experience of many Christians to witness to such pouring of Love. It can’t be properly described. Some call it the Baptism of the Holy Spirit or Fresh Fire from God. It is not just a doctrine. It is an experience. Not all the believers testify to it. The Holy Spirit is sovereign in choosing His vessels. This experience of ‘poured out love’ is the highest form of assurance of salvation. It is not a mental deduction from doctrines. The Holy Spirit pours His Love in our hearts directly and powerfully. That Love speaks Love like no other human words can do. This event is very special and holy. It is available to all, but not all believers receive it. You don’t need it to be born again or go to heaven. But this is the highest form of blessings given to the child of God on earth. There is no higher spiritual experience on earth than this. Different people describe it as electricity, wave upon wave of glory, or heaven downloaded in your soul. You cannot stand on your feet. You lie down, totally weak at this display of Love. It is like cold water to a thirsty soul. It feels like Life and Love at the same time. It is like God’s kiss, not on your lips but on your heart. It brings strength, courage, wisdom, and great sensitivity to the things of God. It increases your love for God. It gives supernatural power to witness for Jesus! God’s love becomes like a magnet. Filled with God’s overflowing love, you can only pray in tongues to give it a proper expression. What’s His name? Jesus!!!

HANNAH’S POURED OUT SOUL

“But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink but have poured out my soul before the Lord. 16 Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now” (1Sam 1:15,16).

Hannah is one of the great women of the Bible. Her story of pain, prayer and praise always encourages the believers. Her name means Grace. She was born during the times of judges when the nation of Isreal was backsliding. “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Jdg 21:25). This is the period between the death of Joshua until the monarchy was established in Isreal. God’s people experienced cycles of sin, oppression, repentance, and deliverance by the judges God sent. There was no king in Isreal. That shows no central authority to govern the people. The King was not just a political figure but a spiritual leader who upholds God’s Law. Without a king people felt like sheep without shepherd. Each man did what he thought is right in his own eyes. It was in this transitional period that uses Hannah to give the people Samuel, who was a priest, the last Judge and the first great prophet in Isreal. The sorrow of bareness of Hannah, was a mirror of the situation in Isreal. They left God. They had no King. They too were spiritually barren.

About Hannah, two times we are told that ‘God closed her womb’ (1Sam 1:5,6). At that time, a woman who was barren was considered under the wrath of God. Hannah’s husband loved her but could not remove the social stigma. Her mate, Peninnah, provoked her severely. Hannah was always sorrowful, even in the God’s temple. Lesson: many are hurt even in the church! It should not be so, but this is a reality. What did Hannah do? She prayed! She went to God! She went to the same God who closed her womb. God alone shuts a door and open a door. That is faith! She addresses God as Jehovah Sabaoth! This is the first time that God is addressed like that in the Bible. It means that Jehovah, the God of the Covenant, is the Supreme Commander of the armies of heaven. He is sovereign over all opposition. Hannah makes a vow that if God gives her a son, she will dedicate that son to God, to serve God all his life. He will be a Nazarite, serving God all his life. Her vow shows her desperation and also faith in God, who alone changes situations and avenges the hurt of His people.

God allowed Hannah to come to a place of desperate prayer of intercession. Before God, she cried out from the depth of her being. She ‘poured out her soul’ before God. She emptied herself. In the presence of God Hannah discovered that God has His own ‘need’ too. God needed a womb to bring a special man of God on earth. He closed Hannah’s womb so that no man can use it until He has fulfilled its divine purpose. Hannah wanted a son. God wanted a son. Hannah decided to empty herself of her desire to be a mother of children and give God priority. This is intercession of the highest order. This is the greatest love of all. Hannah became ‘a surrogate mother’ to God’s child. This is how she got pregnant with Samuel. God used Samuel for His glory. After she gave Samuel back to God, Hannah had three more sons and two daughters. This is a story of pain and love that never fails. It shows the power of prayer, of faith and love to God and man. Hannah praises God for answering her prayer, for reversing her situation, for giving her the testimony of a true woman of God. Mary was inspired by Hannah’s praise song, and she sang it later when she had Jesus.

Lessons:

1-Pray always! Have faith in God! God is the God of miracles! Be persistent in Prayer! Listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit when you pray! Give God your emotions and longings. He will satisfy them with Himself. Samuel means “God has heard”. God hears and answers prayers!

2-Surrender your whole being to God. He is your creator. He is your sustainer. Fear Not! God will remember you! You will not end in shame! Learn to empty yourself before God so that He can fill you with fresh pouring of the Holy Spirit!

3-Vows are powerful. They are serious business. We usually make vows when we are in trouble. God always answers the prayers of vows. Fulfilling your vows is critical. God never forgets vows. He punishes the breaking of vows. “I will go into Your house with burnt offerings; I will pay You my vows, 14 Which my lips have uttered and my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble” (Ps 66:13,14). Absalom made a vow that if God brings him back to Jerusalem, he will serve the Lord. God answered his prayer (2Sam 15:7,8). But killed him when he broke the vow. He did not serve God. He rebelled against his father, King David.

Fulfilling your vows is a sign that you fear God and that you are wise. Breaking your vows shows that you are foolish, and you take God for granted. God punishes the breaking of vows by shutting the doors to your prosperity and peace and even by untimely death. Because God is faithful! He rewards faithfulness! “When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed. 5 Better not to vow than to vow and not pay. 6 Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, nor say before the messenger of God that it was an error. Why should God be angry at your excuse and destroy the work of your hands? 7 For in the multitude of dreams and many words there is also vanity. But fear God” (Ecc 5:4-7). Selah!

4-Do warfare! Let God fight your battles! Jehovah Sabaoth never loses any battle! His victory is sure! Reject jealousy, intimidation, inferiority complex, depression, doubt and defeat. Start to praise God! Speak victory despite the negative voices of opposition! Prophesy God’s blessing to yourself! Hannah said: “My heart rejoices in the Lord; My horn is exalted in the Lord. I smile at my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation… Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread, And the hungry have ceased to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, And she who has many children has become feeble” (1 Sam 2:1,5).

5-Obey God’s Word: rejoice in hardship, persevere in prayer, build your character and hope in God (Rom 5:1-5).

6-Have hope in God! Do not backslide as you wait on God! Pain gives birth to testimonies!

7- Respect and submit to the spiritual authority God have set over you (even if he is backsliding).

8- Manifest agape Love! “No one has greater love [nor stronger commitment] than to lay down his own life for his friends” (Jn15:13). Hannah loved like Jesus. She surrendered her body (her womb) to God as a living sacrifice. God had her first fruit of her womb. This laying down of her life is the greatest Love of all. In all cultures, dying for a friend is seen as a great sacrifice based on duty or honor. But Jesus teaching is radical because it connects this ultimate sacrifice with Love! To lay down your life is not only about physical death, but it means to give up your rights, your comfort, desires and dreams to live your own good life for the sake of others. This laying down is a picture of the Cross and gives glory to Jesus alone! It lifts Jesus higher, and, in this way, many are drawn to Him. Worship the Lord!

RUTH – A WOMAN OF GODLY CHARACTER

WE REJOICE IN HARDSHIPS, PERSEVERE, BUILD CHARACTER AND HOPE! (Rom 5:1-5; AMP)

The need to mature as Christians thru trials in life is the greatest practical theme in the Bible. Apostle Paul shows us how to apply the doctrine in daily living. He has told us that we are justified by faith, that we have peace, access to stand, and we should rejoice in the hope ahead. In other words, the true believer is sure of his place in heaven. He rejoices in his hope. Knowing and believing these doctrines produces joy. These are facts of the Christian foundation. This maturity comes thru this ‘knowing…’, which is the work of the Holy Spirit. Practically, the following are the effects of justification by grace and thru faith in the Lord Jesus Christ:

1-The first thing we see is that a Christian ‘rejoices in his hardships’. In Greek, the word rejoice means ‘to glory, to make noise, to joyfully boast about something’. This is not a quiet joy. It is vocal. This is a reminder that the Christian life is not easy. There are trials, sufferings, attacks, hardships, and tribulations. The world gets happy only when things go well. Unbelievers hate troubles. They see nothing good in them. But the believer rejoices in them. Why? Because he finds God even in times of troubles! The Christian does not pray for problems to come, but when they do come, he finds God’s purpose in them, and he rejoices. The word ‘hardships’ means ‘pressures’ of life. These are divided into two: The pressures of society and self-imposed pressures. In the first group, for example, teenagers, under peer pressure, want to go to university abroad; young women want to marry before they are thirty; the graduate wants a good job immediately; the married couple wants children immediately after the wedding. Self-imposed pressure is from within. None gives you stress. You give it yourself. You envy others and you want to be rich, famous and successful like them. You want the latest car like the rich… You want to be slim… But you are not realistic. You want things that may not be good for you. That pressure leads to frustration and depression. You need to humble yourself, pray to know God’s will for your life and stop comparing yourself with others. You are created unique by God. Forget others! Fulfill your own destiny. Do not add more stress to your life! Be free! Be yourself! Our Lord addressed this. He said: “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (Jn 16:33). In Jesus’ name, rejoice and overcome your own world! Amen!

In His sermon on the mount, our Lord said that trials will come just because we belong to Him. “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you” (Matt 5:11,12). We see that the Chistian will be criticized, persecuted and insulted just because he belongs to Christ. This persecution coming from the secular and the religious world is to be expected. It is ‘normal’. Why is the Christian persecuted? First, it is because He has the Spirit of Christ in Him. As men hated Jesus, they will hate the Christian. The believer is unique. The world hates anyone who is different, who is special. Men cannot control the Christian. Therefore, they will insult him. The Christian believes in the God of heaven. He knows that one day he will go there. His faith in God and heaven keeps him strong through all situations. Worldly men hate heaven because they hate death. That is why they buy expensive clothes, cars and live like there is no tomorrow. The unbeliever does everything so that he forgets about death. But the Christian is different. He has a hope of glory which is stronger than his fear of death. The world finds that thinking strange and abuses him. Selah!

The false prophets and the cult leaders promise a life free from all problems. They say something like this: “Accept Jesus and you will never have any problems in life!” They give false hopes to people. This promise is not Biblical. Problems do indeed come. Life is not easy. In fact, because they experience persecutions, the Christians have more problems than the unbelievers. But the interesting thing is that believers make progress by faith even through hardship. By experience, they learn that all trials and temptations cannot quench their hope of glory. They discover that God remains the same before, during and after the storm. God’s Love never changes! Trials only confirm that Love!

We are told that believers are ‘persecuted for Jesus’ sake’. What does that mean? Persecution means to oppress, harass or insult someone because of his race, or religion. This is a fact: all true believers are persecuted. Apostle Paul said: “But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” (2Tim 3:10-12). This persecution happens not because believers are troublemakers, difficult, or overzealous. They are not persecuted because they are kind or do noble deeds. Every religious unbeliever wants to do good deeds and to be praised by men. The Christians are persecuted just because they are different. They are holy like Jesus. By their words and deeds, believers remind people of Jesus. Their Love convict unbelievers. That is why they react. Who are the persecutors? The world is the main oppressor. Secondly, the religious unbelievers in the church also persecute the true believers. Selah!

How does a Christian react to provocation and persecution? First, he must always obey God’s Word! He must not pay back evil for evil. He must not retaliate. He must not seek vengeance. He must remain calm, loving, and ‘turn the other cheek’ (Matt 5:39). “Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good” (Rom 12:21). He must pray for the strength to endure the attack, pray for divine wisdom on what to say. He must not react in anger. He must not become bitter or depressed because of the attacks. He must keep his peace. Amen!

The believer is able to rejoice that he is persecuted for Christ’s sake, being in the same category with the prophets of old. The apostles were imprisoned and beaten by the religious leaders because they preached in Jesus’ name. Yet, they rejoiced! “So, they left the Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy [dignified by indignity] to suffer shame for [the sake of] His name” (Acts 5:41; AMP).

What does the Christian do when problems come? The first thing is to pray for more grace, strength, and divine wisdom. He knows that God is there for him always. This ‘knowing’ is deep and extremely strong. Faith in God is the power behind the Christian rejoicing and boasting of Jesus during the storm. The believer sees God in the center of all things, including the painful things. He sees trials as discipline coming from God the Father (Heb 12:5-11). He knows that God does not send trials to the unbelievers in the same way. God trains him as a son who must represent his Father. Trials are a training school for the Christian as an ambassador of Christ. The pain gives the Christian joy and adds proof that he is not an illegitimate son. The pain draws him closer to God and God reminds him how much He loves him. As he runs the Christian race, in the pain, he finds his gain. This positive effect of pain is to change the character. The believer discovers how deep God’s love is for him, especially during trials. The unbelievers behave differently. They do not draw closer to God. They become angry and bitter, blaming God during their pains. The trials expose them, by washing away their pretense of faith and peace. Lesson: this is a good test to know if you are a true believer or not. What is your reaction during the trials of life? When things are easy, anyone can claim to be a Christian going to heaven. But what do you do, or think, or say, during difficult times? Examine yourself! Selah!

Tribulations are many and different. These can be persecution, insults, attacks of sickness, poverty, or loneliness. It does not mean that the Christian is happy when troubles come to him. He is sad like any other human being. But he does not stay sad!!! He prays and asks God for strength, guidance and wisdom. Please observe that ‘we rejoice IN our hardships.’ We do not just wait for the pain to go. In the midst of it all, during the hardships of life, we can truly thank God! We feel God’s presence. We know that we are not alone! We rejoice because God has a purpose for everything. We rejoice in the pain because the pain has come to push us closer to God. The believer knows that nothing happens to him is by accident. He knows that God is sovereign over all. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom 8:28). God’s promise never fails! Even now, give thanks to God!

Dear Christian, how can you rejoice during suffering? This is the answer: It is because you know your identity and purpose in Christ. You know who you are, to whom you belong. You know that Jesus died to save your soul, and He has promised to never leave you alone! This assurance of salvation and of heaven gives you courage to face any opposition. During attacks, you feel the presence of God with you. God’s Love covers you. You do not fear men or their wicked words. In life or death, you know that thru Christ you are always a winner.

Finally, what is the promised reward? The Bible does not describe it. But we know that in heaven we shall see Jesus, face to face. We shall have spiritual bodies like Jesus. We shall worship forever the Lamb upon the throne. We shall live in mansions in glory. Therefore, God’s presence is the greatest reward. That hope makes us exceedingly glad even when we suffer for the sake of Jesus! Hallelujah!

2-Secondly, we are told that “hardship produces patient endurance (perseverance)”. The word ‘produce’ means to manufacture. This is the spiritual production line of the Holy Spirit. The raw material becomes the expected product. The Christian rejoices in hardships because he has discovered the good effect pain has on him. One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is Patience. In Greek, ‘Patience’ means to persevere during hardship, with cheerful endurance as you wait for God to help you. It means to be steadfast (fixed in one direction, firm in purpose, not shaking from faith, being faithful, and loyal). It means not giving up, standing and trusting God. The opposite of steadfast means to shake and abandon your position, to bend, or to betray your friend. During trials, the Holy Spirit tests, purifies and strengthens your faith. Every believer testifies that hardship made him stronger in faith. This strength manifests only in the true believers. This is the testimony of all believers: “Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep and honor Your word [with loving obedience]” (Ps 119:67; AMP).

3-Thirdly, we are also told that “endurance proves character”. As the faith gets stronger, you learn to stand and persevere during the trial. You can see what God is doing thru the trial. The result is that you now rejoice even in the pain. This produces stability of character. This blessing can only happen as God does His great work in you in the fire. “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing” (Jam 1:2-4). The natural man is impatient and restless. Even the baby Christian is impatient. All he wants is that the pain should go away. Patience and wisdom are twins. Led by the Holy Spirit, the trials of life build up character that is tried in the fire and proven to be genuine. In the Bible, the word Character always means proven moral character. The mature Christian has the scars to prove that God’s fire has purified, approved and established him. Thru hardships, we learn to Love an invisible but Loving Jesus!

These are some of the characteristics of a Christian who has a mature godly moral character:

*First, this man is a Lover! He loves God with all his heart. Secondly, he loves people as he loves himself. Love is the greatest proof that this man has a proven moral character. If you want to know who is genuine, then look for agape Love in his words and actions. Love is a Fruit of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that true believers are known by Love and unbelievers are known by wickedness (Matt 7:17).

*The godly man is humble, submissive and teachable. He submits to God, to Christ and to the human authority given to him by God! He loves to serve others, to help them with their needs. “Through love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Gal 5:13,14).

*This man pays the price to grow spiritually. He is not stagnant. He loves God’s Word, prayer, and church activities. For example, Apostle Paul, who is considered the greatest Christian who has ever lived, continue to pay the price for spiritual maturity. “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me” (Phil 3:12).

*This godly man is responsible. He is hard working. He takes care of his household needs. He does not borrow except in emergency. “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” (1Tim 5:8). This man is worthy of trust. He does what is right and the things expected of him. He accepts the blame if anything goes wrong.

*He is generous with his resources. “The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself” (PV 11:25).

*He is kind, forgiving. “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you” (Eph 4:32).

*He fears God. “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised” (PV 31:30)

*He is strong and courageous (Josh 1:6,7,9). He is not a coward!

*He speaks Truth in Love (Eph 4:15). He is a good communicator. He does not gossip or slander. He is an encourager.

There are some people in the Bible who have great moral character. For example, Joseph, King David, Daniel, Ruth, Esther, Mordecai, the wife in Proverbs 31, and others, were shining examples of godly behavior even in difficult or dangerous times. They were not born like that. They were all sinners saved by Grace. But they paid the price for spiritual maturity and godly character. Fame is what people see. It is who people think you are. But Character is who you really are, the things you do when no man is watching. Doing the right thing is never easy. But standing for what is right, doing good to people, is a test of our moral character. Iron is known for its strength. Nature is known for her beauty. In the same way, a godly man is known by his excellent character. It is built by constantly seeking God’s will in every decision in life. Children are 25% of the present population and 100% of the future. As parents, we must display and teach godly values to our children. Study a moral godly man! Look at the things he loves and at the things he hates. That will tell you the truth about that man!

4-Godly moral Character produces more hope! Hope is defined as the Joyful expectation of the future. It is only a man who loves God and people, who is humble, teachable and submissive, who pays the price to grow spiritually, who is hardworking, responsible, and generous that has hope for the future. After passing the fire of affliction, the Christian is now trustworthy, faithful, and emotionally stable. God can trust him with His resources. This maturity leads to greater hope. We started with hope, and we’ll end shall with hope. The Old Saints said that Hope is both the father and the child of spiritual maturity. The trials confirmed God’s Love in the believer and the hope of heaven. That is why the Christian, at the end of the period of hardship, is even stronger. This is the proven royal way of the Cross, the agape road!

Don’t forget the power of hope. When a doctor tells his patient that there is no hope, he means that death is his only option. Hopelessness is a terrible burden to carry. It is proven that even if you take everything from a man, if he still retains his hope, he will make it. These are some Feelings of hopelessness (despair): depression, anger, sleep disturbances, weight fluctuations, slow in thinking, in making decisions, feelings of guilt, inferiority complexes, thoughts of suicide and unexplained physical problems (weakness, body pains, stomach pains etc).

RUTH – A WOMAN OF NOBLE CHARACTER

“And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you request, for all the people of my town know that you are a virtuous woman…. A woman of excellence… a woman of noble character” (Ru 3:11; NKJ; AMP; NIV).

Ruth is called a woman of noble character. These are just some of the reasons why: she was a true believer in Jehovah God. She was possibly Naomi’s convert to Judaism. Ruth was a pagan before she married Naomi’s son. After her husband’s death, she continued to serve Naomi. For her, Naomi was not just her mother-in-law, but her mentor in Judaism. Ruth obeyed God’s word: “The one who is taught the word [of God] is to share all good things with his teacher [contributing to his spiritual and material support]” (Gal 6:6; AMP). Ruth was faithful to her mentor unto death. Love for God and for Naomi was the only explanation why Ruth left her country, her people, her family and her gods to follow and serve Naomi in Isreal. Love is the only reason why a person can go to this extreme of faithfulness and sacrifice.

Ruth was loving, humble, teachable, obedient, respectful, hard-working, and loyal. These are all evidence of a genuine moral character. But the greatest of her attributes is her dedication to Naomi, even to the point of death. This quality is rare to find. People betray one another. They find many reasons why they should divorce, or separate. Ruth did not perform miracles. She did not organize crusades. But in her own quiet life, she shines as light in darkness. Ruth teaches us that faith and hope in God is rewarded by God. Our past is not our final destination. Choosing and doing the right thing, loving with the extra mile passion is rewarded by God. All godly relationships are God’s gifts to mankind. Ruth did not know that a chapter in the Bible will be named after her and that million of people will read and be inspired by her faithfulness. God honored her. God uses the most unlikely people to do His will.  God cares for all people, no matter the nationality, skin color or level in society. Men and women are equal before God. None is unimportant before God. God uses little things and little people to achieve great things for His glory! Love and Faith make the difference. It pays to serve God and man. It pays to build up a godly testimony. God rewards that! “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD bestows grace and favor and honor; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly” (Ps 84:11; AMP). The sun is a symbol of light and life. The shield is protection. God bestows Grace and Honor. God gives spiritual and natural blessings, earthly and heavenly rewards to those who are upright in character. God will not withdraw any good blessing from His children. This promise encourages believers to pay the price for spiritual maturity and godly character.

Ruth was declared to be kind by Naomi and Boaz. She loved Jehovah more than her natural family. She was determined to find and serve God. Not even Orpah’s going back or Naomi’s pleading changed her mind. Naomi failed the test of affliction. She blamed God for her troubles and became bitter. She was supposed to rejoice in her hardship, but she did not. Ruth passed the test of affliction. She did not become bitter. She served a backslider with a joyful heart. Ruth obeyed God’s promises that said: “God makes a home for the lonely; He leads the prisoners into prosperity, Only the stubborn and rebellious dwell in a parched land” (Ps 68:6; AMP). “And I will bless (do good for, benefit) those who bless you, And I will curse [that is, subject to My wrath and judgment] the one who curses (despises, dishonors, has contempt for) you. And in you all the families (nations) of the earth will be blessed” (Gen 12:3:AMP). Worship the Lord!

GRACE UPON GRACE

GRACE UPON GRACE

“For out of His fullness [the superabundance of His grace and truth] we have all received grace upon grace [spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing, favor upon favor, and gift heaped upon gift]” (Jn 1:16; AMP). In Greek, the word ‘fullness’ means completeness and overflow. Christ is 100% God and 100% Man. The Christian is a man who has received and continues to receive something from God. He receives willingly and actively. God thru Christ gives the believer the best heaven has. The Christian receives the Holy Spirit by faith and at different levels. This pouring of the Holy Spirit is by God’s Grace. It is an intimate relationship of giving and receiving. Christ’ gift increases gradually. It is grace upon grace. Grace is defined as the unmerited favor of God to the believer. It manifests as spiritual gift upon gift, and spiritual blessing upon blessing. This continuous increase in spiritual power and anointing never stops until the believer goes to heaven.

Grace is the generosity, the outpouring of Love. Grace is like a glass full of water. We drink and drink and it is still full. As children of God, we know and feel that we are loved, protected and blessed. Out of this overflow of Love, we love others. The Christians are different in their levels of revelation, authority, and power to testify for Jesus. All believers are citizens of God’s Kingdom, but not all are governors or judges with authority to open and shut doors. It is possible to be born-again and still not be baptized with the Holy Spirit. There is a price to pay to know and function in the realm of power, and love. May we be willing to mature!

LOVE IS STRONG AND COURAGEOUS (Deut 11:22-25; Joshua 1:1-9)

We are ready to crossover into a new year (2025). Let God’s Word guide us. Let the Holy Spirit direct us. We shall experience a higher level of fruitfulness and greater harvest. We re-visit the story of Joshua, taking the lead after God’s servant, Moses has died. This is a story of transition, from dreams to dreams come true. The people of God are ready to crossover. They’ve camped by River Jordan. God commands Joshua to arise and lead the people. God commands him to be strong and very courageous. He must devote Himself to study and apply God’s Word. God’s promises are ready to be fulfilled. Centuries ago, God promised that the Land of Canaan will be theirs. Because of disobedience, they’ve wasted many years. But they are now ready to enter the Promised Land. This is a destiny moment for Isreal.

Three times in this passage God commands Joshua to be ‘strong and very courageous’. This is not a suggestion. Obeying this command is rewarded with godly prosperity and success. Moses was a strong leader. Joshua also needs to be strong and very courageous as a leader because God’s people were not experienced warriors, and the Canaanites were strong enemies. To be ‘strong’ means emotionally firm and stable, but not totally hardened and not soft; he must not be easily moved emotionally, not yielding to manipulation or intimidation. The word ‘courageous’ means to be brave, fearless, having the mental and moral strength to deal with dangerous, unpleasant or difficult things without breaking down. God’s command was ‘to observe to do’ all God’s Law. This is an active, diligent and intentional obedience to God’s commands. According to God’s covenant, obedience to God’s Word brought blessings. Disobedience brought curses. Partial obedience is counted as disobedience. Joshua was not to turn to the right or to the left. It shows the need to go straight on God’s path of righteousness. Any deviation means failure or danger. Lesson: stay focused on the path God has prepared for us, and faithfully, to run the race to the end.

God has promised that obedience to His Word leads to prosperity. In Hebrew, the word ‘sakal’ means prosperity that comes from wisdom and understanding of God. It is not just wealth. It is the testimony of a mature believer who knows God and His Word. He hears from God. He applies God’s Word wisely in his life. This is how he becomes wealthy, spiritually and materially. This promise is not connected only with the Promised Land. Its blessings shall manifest in any place you go in this world. You become a source of prosperity in any place you live.

The Bible is the true and final authority in the life of the believer. We must study, meditate and proclaim God’s Word. This is the lifestyle of the believer. It affects his thinking, his emotions, his choices, his speech and his actions. The diligent study and application of God’s Word leads to prosperity. In Hebrew, it is the word ‘tsalach’. It means to advance, to make progress, or to have breakthrough. Good success means success connected with wisdom taken from the Word of God. This is a reminder that God’s Law is extremely important. It cannot be broken. Man cannot keep God’s Law perfectly. The only Man who ever obeyed God perfectly is Jesus Christ. He did not come to do away with the Law, but to fulfill it through His perfect obedience. In Him, we are justified by Grace and through Faith. His obedience becomes ours. In Christ, all the promises are yes and amen. God’s Word decrees that as believers, we will have a successful and prosperous life.

As we enter this new year, we too stand at the river. We’ve known thirst in the desert. We’ve also tasted the refreshing water of salvation. Now it is time to crossover and enter the Promised Land. The Lion of Judah looks us in the eye and says, “Come here.” The Promised Land is the fullness of the presence of God. Entering there is never casual. It is frightening because in that Land we are to live a whole new life that we have never known before. In the desert, even though we were thirsty, at least we felt some sort of control. But now, we are afraid of heaven because the promises are so, so big and the glory so, so bright! It is hard to have faith that our lives will change so much!

How did Joshua have the power to let go of the past and crossover into the Promised Land? What are the lessons for us? Joshua heard the voice of God. In all transitions we must hear from God. God speaks thru His Word and by His Spirit. Trying to move on without God is dangerous. God’s Word must be heard and obeyed. God promised to be with Joshua always. God’s presence is safety. God promised to fight and defeat all Joshua’s enemies. God’s presence of victory. It is hope! Learn to let go by giving God your desire for comfort, security and control. Let Him replace it with the reality of His presence. Now you are ready to cross over into the Promised Land! Worship the Lord!

MARY’S FIRST LOVE

LOVE IS THE NEW COMMANDMENT (64)/ MARY’S FIRST LOVE

This Sunday service Pastor (Mrs) Silvia Lia Leigh preached another sermon in the series titled ‘Love is The New Commandment’. Her main scriptures are taken from the books of John 13:34,35; Lk 10:38-42; Acts 6:1-7; John 11:28-36; 12:1-8;

AT HIS FEET – MARY’S FIRST LOVE (Lk 10:38-42)

This is a wonderful story. It shows the priority of spiritual things. Priority is defined as something that is more important than other things. It is an urgent thing. It must be dealt first before attending to other things. In this story, we see Mary seated at the feet of Jesus. Thru her we see the priority given to spiritual things, loving Jesus above all others. Mary was a special person. There are not many details about her. We do not know if she was married or if she had children. But the few words about Mary have created a precious picture. Her memory is preserved. She is an inspiration to all lovers of Jesus to the end of time.

When Jesus was on earth, He had many enemies but few true friends. There was a family who lived in a village called Bethany, just 2 miles from Jerusalem. This family was made from three siblings: Martha (possibly the senior sister), Mary, and their (possibly younger) brother, Lazarus. The name Martha means Lady, Mistress or Madam. The name Mary means Beloved. Lazarus means God has helped me. Martha talks and behaves as the Landlady. She is a symbol of the ministry of helps and hospitality. In the Jewish culture, it was a sacred duty to welcome strangers, to give them food and shelter. Mary is the spiritual one in the family. She shows the priority of spiritual work like prayer, worship, and the study of God’s Word. Their brother Lazarus is quieter. This wonderful family opened their house to Jesus. They loved Him as their Master, Teacher, Mentor and Friend. In their house, Jesus was allowed to be Himself. They did not ask Him to do miracles for entertainment. They loved Him simply, from their hearts. They were the friends of Jesus. The name of their village, Bethany means ‘house of affliction’ or ‘house of figs’. It is now a small town with a population of about 22,000 people.

“She had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word”. On this occasion, Jesus and His disciples came to visit them. Mary decided to sit at the feet of Jesus, to listen to His Word. This is the traditional position of a disciple submitting to his master, mentor or rabbi. It was a position of humility and desire to learn. Her position shows that God’s Word has priority over other activities. In Greek, the word ‘sat’ shows a deliberate choice to be close to Jesus, attentive to His words, even if she was to be discriminated because of that. Mary made a choice to be a mature spiritual Christian, to grow in grace and understanding, and to be a true worshipper of Jesus. ‘Mary heard the word’. The word ‘heard’ means listening. It suggests an active, continuous action. Mary was not just hearing the words of Jesus with her ears, but she opened her heart to receive them. It shows hearing and believing. The words of Jesus were spoken with Love and Authority. No man spoke like Jesus! The words had the power to give Eternal Life, to deeply change and transform people. Mary opened ears and heart shows a deep desire to learn divine truth, to have godly wisdom, to Love like Jesus and to be changed from glory to glory.

“But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, tell her to help me.” Martha was busy in the kitchen preparing the dinner for Jesus and the guests. Cooking is never easy. We are told the Martha ‘Was distracted with much serving’. In Greek, the word ‘distracted’ means to drag all around, to be all over the place, to be greatly troubled. To distract it means to draw away your mind, your focus, your attention, from one thing to another. We usually draw away our attention from things we hate to the things we love. We stop thinking about our duty and start thinking about entertainment. Jesus said that Martha was distracted about many things. She was trying to do too many things at the same time. The word ‘serving’ is ‘diakonian’. It means to be a servant, a waiter at the table, a minister or a deacon. The words ‘to care’ means to be concerned, anxious, have an interest. Mary has ‘left’ Martha to serve alone. To leave it means abandon, or to forsake. Alone means solitary, desolate, or single. Martha said: Tell her to help me! The word ‘help’ means to cooperate, to hold the opposite corners together. From these words we see that Martha was serving God by serving men. This is a good work. But she became tired and frustrated. She started grumbling. She was comparing herself with her sister Mary, who sat in the living room, among men, to listen to Jesus. She felt lonely as she was doing ministry. Lesson: This is a common complaint from many pastors and leaders in the church. They know that serving God is a good thing. But they miss the human fellowship, the church ‘gist’. Suddenly, they feel that the Holy Spirit is too ‘spiritual’ and does not understand the frustration of ministry on earth. The Holy Spirit is the Encourager to help us in our loneliness and anxieties of life! Selah!

Jesus replied to busy Martha that one thing is needed. Not many things that bring distraction. Only one thing! And Mary has found that treasure. She has chosen that one good thing. What is that best thing? It is to be one with Jesus! Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to His Word. To sit at His feet means that she submitted to Jesus, to be one with Him. She was ready to receive His Word. Please note that both Martha and Mary are ‘Christians’. The difference was that Mary chose to invest in her soul first. She wanted to attend first to spiritual eternal things for the good of her soul. This was her priority. Her priority was right. After attending to the words of Jesus, she could use the remaining time and strength to do the chores in the house. This was divine wisdom. This was agape Love. Selah!

Jesus calls Mary’s choice ‘the good part’. The good part or the good portion is always a choice. Men and devils cannot take it away from us. Ministry is good. God rewards His servants when they serve Him. But ministry can become a source of distraction from the concentrated focus of studying God’s Word and prayer. I am not saying that Martha is a worldly Christian woman. She loved Jesus too. But because she was the hostess of the home, she felt that she must be more practical. She saw it as her duty to entertain Jesus and the disciples. She wanted to cook many dishes, possibly to impress Jesus with her ministry. But she became anxious in the kitchen. Anxiety made her impatient. She rebuked Jesus saying He does not care. She almost blamed Jesus for encouraging Mary to be lazy and selfish. Lesson: being too busy with the physical needs, leads to anxiety, complaining, and drifting away from spiritual things. The loss is greater than the gain! This is foolish. May we examine ourselves! How do we serve Jesus? What is the place of prayer and the study of God’s Word in our lives?

Jesus gently rebuked Marth by saying that Mary has chosen the good part, the best part. Comparing the two ministries, studying God’s Word, prayer and worship on one side, and the ministry of helps, provision to the needy and taking care of God’s house, on the other side, the first one has a greater value. The spiritual things have pre-eminence over the natural things. This is a spiritual law. “Therefore, do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men” (Rom 14:16-18). To live we need to eat and drink. But the Kingdom of God is made of eternal spiritual things, righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. We should focus on the spiritual things first, and later, we can attend to the needs of the body. We should not allow anyone to speak evil about the good choice we made, to focus our best on spiritual things.

There two reasons why Jesus gently rebuked Martha: 1-She overdid her work until she became distracted from spiritual things. 2-She stopped appreciating the greater value of spiritual investment. For example, we can bake a cake and present it to a prophet. That is good! But to waste hours decorating that cake with flowers, that may be wrong. A simple tasty cake is better. Cooking many dishes on Sunday morning until you become so tired that you fall asleep during the sermon, that is wrong. A simple meal is better. Use the remaining time to study the Bible, pray, praise God and go to church. Let Jesus always be your first Love! Give Him the best of your Strength and Love!

MARY AT THE TOMB OF LAZARUS – FIRST LOVE IN PAIN (Jn 11:28-36)

Let us study Mary during her time of pain and sorrow. Her brother Lazarus was sick and then, he died. Martha and Mary sent message to Jesus to come and heal their brother. But Jesus came ‘too late’. Lazarus has died and was buried four days ago. The whole house was in deep morning. Then Jesus and His disciples finally come. They stay at a place outside the village. Martha goes to see him. Jesus preaches to her and tells her that resurrection is not an event, but a Person. Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life. At the end of ‘the sermon’ Martha goes home. She tells Mary: “The Teacher is calling for you”. Mary gets up immediately and goes to meet Jesus. Lesson: during all situations, even in grief, First Love goes to Jesus! The Jews who came to visit and to mourn with the sisters, did not understand why Mary went out in a hurry. Lesson: unbelievers will always misunderstand the actions of First Love. Mary loved Jesus but now, she was struggling with some questions about Jesus. Doubt tried to steal her heart. Why did He not heal her brother… Why did He come so late? But when she saw Jesus, she forgot all her questions and doubts. She fell at His feet. That was the place she knew. That was the access to stand in Grace. Faith returned to her broken heart. She worshipped Jesus. That is the only language of love.

Martha “met” Jesus. But Mary “fell down at the feet of Jesus”. Lesson: Even in pains, in doubts, even when she does not understand what is happening, First Love always worships Jesus. Martha received a good teaching. Mary wept kneeling. From that holy place of faith Mary saw how Jesus was weeping. Mary was touched by the tears of Jesus. Mary saw how Jesus was groaning in His Spirit, being troubled. Why did Jesus’ groan like that? Because He was standing in a place of death. God’s perfect plan for man was Life and not death. But man’s sin brough death on earth. Death was man’s final enemy. It was the enemy of Jesus too. Mary saw how Jesus defeated the power of death by His death. She saw how Jesus called her brother back to life again. Martha received a sermon. Mary received the miracle of Resurrection Life. The Jews said that the weeping of Jesus was a sign of Love. “Then the Jews said, “See how He (Jesus) loved him (Lazarus)!” (Jn 11:36). Yes, Jesus loved Lazarus! Jesus loves us! In few days time, Jesus will pay for the miracle of Life for Lazarus with His own life. This is the greater agape Love, first ever Love, no man can give, and no man can take away. Jesus said: “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (Jn 15:13). “For love is as strong as death” (SS8:6). Mary witnessed the greatest Love of all.

MARY ANOINTS JESUS FOR HIS BURIAL (Jn 12:1-8)

This is the last time we see Mary of Bethany. There is a thanksgiving party celebrating the resurrection of Lazarus. As usual, Martha was serving food. But this time, she did not complain that Mary left her alone. She has learned her lessons. She was happy to serve food to the guests. She was not jealous on Mary. Jesus was in the house and her brother was alive and well. Everyone was in a happy mood. Well, not everyone… Some Jews came to attend the party as spies. They were not happy about the resurrection of Lazarus. Because of the miracle, many people now believed in Jesus. The Jews were planning how to kill both Jesus and Lazarus. They thought that they could wipe away the proof and even the memory of the miracle. Lesson: the unbelievers hate Jesus and His miracles, but they cannot stop them!

As the celebration was going on, Mary did something strange and totally unexpected. She took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfumed oil. Mark tells us that “She broke open the jar and poured it on Jesus’ head” (Mk 14:3). Mary did not just gently open the jar. She broke it. Why? Possibly, because she wanted it to be a sacrificial offering. When a poor man offered a dove to God, the priest used his hands to cut off the bird’s head. Its blood was offered on the altar. In the same way, Mary broke the jar so that all its content was poured on Jesus. Nothing will be left for her. The price of the ointment was 300 silver coins. This was a very expensive perfume. It was worth a year’s wages. Some said that she kept it for her wedding day. If that is true, then that day, standing before Jesus, she let go of her romantic wedding dreams. Judas, the traitor, complained that Mary’s sacrifice was too much. She called it a waste. He said that the money should have been given to the poor. He did not care for the poor but as the treasurer of the group, he wanted to steal the money. Lesson: religious unbelievers come to church but in their hearts, they worship Mamon. They hinder the true worship of God. They hate the First Love! Jesus defended Mary’s action. He accepted her sacrificial offering. He said that Mary prepared Him for burial. He also said that the poor people will always be around, but He will not always be with them. The door of opportunity to worship Him will not always be opened. Again, Mary chose to do the best thing!

Question: why did Mary worship Jesus with her sacrificial offering? During the party, Jesus was thinking about the Cross. In six days, He will be crucified and die a shameful death. Martha loved Jesus but she did not understand His loneliness and pain. She was happy because of what she saw: Jesus was in the house and her brother Lazarus was alive. To her, nothing else matters. But as the party was on, Mary sensed the loneliness of Jesus, His pain for the soon coming Cross. That is why she offered Him something prepared for His burial. This is amazing. As everyone was laughing, drinking, eating, singing and dancing, Mary understood the pains of Jesus. Where could she have gained such a sensitivity? Surely, at His feet. Each time she stayed at His feet, she not only heard His words, His teachings, but she felt His breath, His heart, His tears. Lesson: Intimacy with Jesus develops deep spiritual sensitivity. First Love imparts genuine Love, religion knows nothing about. By connecting with His heart, by her sacrificial offering, by her worship, Mary encouraged Jesus. God used Mary to tell Jesus that He is not alone. That the terrible price to be paid to redeem sinners is worth it. This is an amazing moment in the life of Jesus! Paul said: “I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for His body, the church” (Col 1:24). God bless Mary! May God bless all who desire to participate in the sufferings of Jesus and to encourage Jesus! Worship the Lord!

“Down at Your feet, oh Lord

Is the most high place

In Your presence, Lord

I seek Your face, seek Your face…

There is no higher calling, no greater honour

Than to bow and kneel before Your throne

I am amazed at Your glory, embraced by Your mercy

Oh Lord, I live to worship You!”

REJOICING IN HOPE OF THE GLORY OF GOD

REJOICING IN HOPE OF THE GLORY OF GOD

The effect of standing in the Grace of justification by faith is not only peace and access to stand. It is also pure joyful hope to enter glory. Hope is defined as the joyful expectation of the future. For a Christian, the future is always better and more glorious than the present. In this scripture, the word ‘rejoicing’ is not just an emotion of happiness. In Greek it is translated as ‘boasting’. It means to triumphally and happily brag about the achievements of another. Practically, it means to boast of knowing Jesus as our Savior and Lord! We boast about our hope we have in Christ. A Christian is so confident that he will go to heaven, that he happily boasts about that place. He sees heaven as his eternal home. This is called the assurance of salvation. All believers are saved but not all believers have this assurance of salvation. To get that, you need to press on by faith. Fast and pray so that God will give you this extra gift. This hope is not an ordinary hope of better life on this earth. It is the hope of experiencing and being a part of the eternal Glory of God. The believer has this living hope: he knows that he will go to heaven and will see God face to face. This hope is extremely powerful. It keeps the believer focused and strong through the trials of this world. Hope in the Bible is never mixed with doubt. It always connects with joyful faith. To walk in faith, with full assurance of hope is a walk of strength and courage. Few believers walk like this. Ignorance of doctrine is a major hindrance to the believers’ victorious life!

What glory does the Christian hope to see? It is the glory of God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. When Jesus lived on earth, His glory as God was veiled by His human body. Few people had the privilege to see a glimpse of it But now, in heaven, Jesus does not hide His glory. He is God Almighty! He is the King of Glory in heaven. As Man on earth, Jesus suffered rejection, died, was buried, and on the third day, He rose from the dead. He bodily ascended to heaven. The Father exalted Him above all. His glory is now revealed to all. All creatures in heaven bow and openly worship Him, singing with loud voices: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!” (Rev 5:12). He always had glory as God! Now He receives glory as a Man! Amen!

God created man in His image, to reflect His Glory. Adam and Eve were the only human beings who saw the glory of God on earth in their physical bodies They had fellowship with God in the garden. God’s glory covered them as garments of light. When they fell into sin, the glory left. They felt naked. Sin damaged God’s relationship with man.

Among human beings, godly success is described as ‘glory’. Joseph told his brothers: “So you shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt” (Gen 45:13). King David also experienced God’s glory on earth. “His glory is great in Your salvation; Honor and majesty You have placed upon him” (Ps 21:5).

These are some examples of men who saw the glory of Jesus.  Moses prayed to see God’s glory. God answered his prayer. God passed by revealing His goodness and sovereign mercy. God covered Moses so that he can only see His back. This is because no mortal man can see God’s glory and live (Exo 33:18-23). Prophet Isaiah saw King Jesus seated on the throne. He also saw that God’s glory is over the earth (Isa 6:1-3). Prophet Ezekiel saw God’s glory as fire around the throne of God in heaven (Eze 1:26-28). As he was dying, Stephen did not see the wicked men who were stoning him to death, but he saw Jesus in His glory. “But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God” (Ac 7:55). When Saul of Tarsus was going on the road to Damascus to arrest the Christians, he suddenly saw Jesus in His full glory! “Suddenly a light shone around him from heaven” (Ac 9:3). The light of the glory of Christ blinded him. He was never the same again. He became Apostle Paul, the greatest preacher of the Gospel in the history of mankind.

Jesus took Peter, James and John on Mount Tabor. He was transfigured before them. His glory shone thru Him. “His appearance changed dramatically in their presence; and His face shone [with heavenly glory, clear and bright] like the sun, and His clothing became as white as light” (Matt 17:2; AMP). Peter remembered this event and he wrote: “For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” 18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain” (2Pet 1:16-18). Later, Apostle John saw the resurrected Christ in His glory and fell at His feet like dead (Rev 1:12-18). Remember this: Each believer who has seen even a glimpse of the glory of Jesus, will be forever changed, from inside out. God’s glory changes us! “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2Cor 3:18). Amen!

The disciples came back excited from doing ministry. They said that the demons submitted to them. Jesus didn’t stop their joy of successful deliverance ministry. But he raised their eyes to eternal things, to the glory of heaven. “Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven” (Lk 10:20). Many preach about sanctification, but few preach about glorification. That is why the Christians focus too much on the present-day trials on earth, how to overcome them and ignore the hope of glory in heaven, which alone gives strength, courage and focus! “By faith he (Moses) forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible” (Heb 11:27). Lesson: Keep your eyes on Jesus and the glory ahead!

GOD’S GLORY DEFINED

The Bible is the story of God’s glory! Glory is defined as the highest level of honor, beauty and power. It is fame won by the greatest achievements. It is the greatest intrinsic value of a Person. Glory refers to Position, Possessions, Power and Length of Life. Of course, Glory belongs to God. The Glory of God is the beauty of His Spirit, of His holiness, of His perfect character. “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and You are exalted as head over all!” (1Chr 29:11). Hallelujah!

The Glory of God is defined as the external manifestation of God’s Presence. Glory can be seen, or it is revealed. “Now it came to pass, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud” (Exo 16:10). “The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken” (Isa 40:5). To see God’s glory and to disobey His commands, brings judgement upon the rebellious (Nu 14:20-23).

We are told that God does not share His glory with the idols. “I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images” (Isa 42:8). In Hebrew, the word ‘glory’ is ‘kabod’. It is the weight, the heaviness, or the splendor of God. God is unwilling to share His glory and His Praise with idols or any false gods. All authority belongs to God alone, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. Idolatry is desire to steal God’s glory. God punishes it. “Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore, God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen” (Rom 1:22-25).

Immediately a believer dies, he goes to heaven to see Jesus in His glory, face to face. Our salvation starts on earth, and it is perfected in heaven. We start as sinners saved by Grace and end as saints in glory. “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified” (Rom 8:29,30). Apostle Paul connects Justification with Glorification, jumping sanctification. The Process of sanctification is taken for granted. Many Christians know much about sanctification and little about the glory of heaven. It is not that sanctification is not important, but we are to look ahead to the glory of heaven. This vision helps us stay focused. When Jesus comes again, we shall have new spiritual glorious bodies, exactly like Him. That means we were not to be just spectators to the glory of Jesus, but we share in it. In our new glorious bodies, there shall be no spots, no wrinkles; no remnant of sin, no damage done by sickness or by old age. Our bodies will be beautiful, perfect and glorious. Halleluiah!

In the New Testament, God’s glory is revealed in the Person of Jesus Christ, who is the Living Eternal Word. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (Jn 1:14). The glory of Jesus was manifested thru His Words and His miracles (Jn 2:11). God’s glory was veiled by His human body. Occasionally, the glory was revealed. On the Mount of Transfiguration. The Glory revealed on Jesus is different than the way it was revealed on Moses. Moses’ shining face was reflected faded glory. But Jesus’ Glory emanates from His Person. It’s His own original personal divine glory. The Transfiguration was a glimpse in the eternal glory of Jesus Christ as God! When Jesus will come back again, His glory will be seen in full display. “For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works” (Matt 16:27).

CHRIST IN YOU THE HOPE OF GLORY!

“God [in His eternal plan] chose to make known to them how great for the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in and among you, the hope and guarantee of [realizing the] glory” (Col 1:27; AMP).

Our salvation is strictly by God’s Grace. God is sovereign in His choice of the elect. This doctrine is rejected by many Christians, but it is biblical. The truth is that no sinner is worthy of heaven. God alone calls and God alone justifies. God the Father has designed the plan of salvation from eternity. At the fulness of time, God sent His Son, to become a Man, to die for sinners. In the Old Testament, God revealed His will to Isreal. After the Cross, the Holy Spirit reveals that salvation is now extended to all people who believe in Jesus, Gentiles included. God promised Abraham that “in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Gen 12:3). This mystery is glorious. Hidden for ages, it is now revealed to the saints (Eph 3:6). The Jews were offended that Jesus included the Gentiles in the plan of salvation. But they could not stop the rising tide of truth and freedom!

There are two aspects of this mystery: 1-It is very rich. Its wealth is beyond man’s capacity to measure. 2-It is glorious, spiritual, heavenly. The Bible reveals that all the elect, both Jew and Gentile are saved by faith in Christ. This revelation brings men to their knees in worship. That is the only proper response to it. This mystery is revealed to be in one Person. That Person is Jesus Christ who lives not only in heaven, but in the hearts of all believers. Christianity is not just religion, but a new way of life and love. Christ in the center of the personality works from inside out. This secret power, hidden in the soul, makes the Christian invincible to evil forces. The believer’s faith, love and living hope of heaven works powerfully during trials on earth. Lesson: Christ dwelling in your heart gives you the power to change, to become more like Jesus. This is an intimate relationship none can destroy. Christ dwelling in the heart gives the believer assurance of his salvation. He has this confidence that if he dies, he will go to heaven and worship Christ forever. Glory to God!

HOW DO WE GIVE GLORY TO GOD?

We are born to know and glorify God forever. It is man’s purpose in life. “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever” (Westminster Shorter Catechism). “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1Cor 10:31). To eat and to drink are normal activities in life. But we reject any food or drink offered to idols. In all we do, we must remember God. Faith in God must be the center of every activity. In Greek, the word ‘glory’ is ‘doxa’. It means to honor, praise and worship God. Believers live such lives that people always see Christ in us. Our lives should make no sense outside Christ. The world hates Christ. They will hate us too. But some unbelievers, will come closer to see the secret of our love, calmness, wisdom and power, coming from Christ dwelling in us. In this world, we are the only people Christ can use to reveal His glory, the only Bibles people may read. To represent God is a great responsibility!

We cannot add to God’s glory, but we can testify to our hope of glory! “You must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it” (1Pet 3:15; NLT).

Practically, we give glory to God by believing and boasting in Jesus Christ, by taking our Cross to follow Jesus, by dying to self so that the Spirit becomes fruitful in us. We give glory to God by preaching and living God’s Word! We give God the glory by praising God’s Grace in His salvation. He chose us before the foundation of the world to be accepted in His Beloved, Jesus Christ (Eph 1:3-6).  We give glory to God by confessing our sins and by repentance. “Now Joshua said to Achan, “My son, I beg you, give glory to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession to Him, and tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me” (Josh 7:19).

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Rom 3:23,24). Sin is the enemy of glory. All have sinned means that all humanity is born into sin. The word ‘sin’ means ‘to miss the mark’. It is like an archer whose arrow misses the target. Sin has stained the garments of glory that covered us. Spiritually, it means to fall bellow God’s standard of moral law. ‘To fall short’ shows continuous action. It is a process. We have sinned in the past and we continue to sin in the present. We see the need for ongoing grace in the process of sanctification. The glory of God shows the divine standard of perfection and holiness. We see the eternal gap between sin and glory. The Blood of Jesus on the Cross, has destroyed sin and death and has restored the glory of God back to man. Salvation is by Grace, through faith. The goal of salvation is to share in God’s glory in heaven! Praise God!

I AM GLORIFIED IN THEM!

In His high priestly prayer, Jesus said: “I am glorified in them” (Jn 17:10). “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world” (Jn 17:24).

The Son of God came to earth to give glory to God the Father. God the Father also glorifies God the Son. “Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You” (Jn 17:1). “I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was” (Jn 17:4,5). The Holy Spirit glorifies the Son of God! Jesus said: The Holy Spirit “will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore, I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you” (Jn 16:14).

Thru the Holy Spirit the believers give glory to Jesus. God the Son gives His glory to the believers. His Glory unites them perfectly. His Glory proves to them that He loves them. Glory connects with Agape Love. This is one of the greatest revelations in the Bible. Because Christ dwells in our hearts in His glory we now enter the family of the Trinity. Thru Christ, we can give glory to God the Father. The problem with many believers is that they have doubts about their identity, and responsibility as ambassadors of Christ. But this is the truth: Christ sends us into the world to glorify Him among people. May our lights shine brighter for Jesus! May we boast of Jesus! Worship the Lord!

THE CHRISTMAS LOVE STORY

THE CHRISTMAS LOVE STORY

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Is 9:6)

Lies: Life is Random. There is no God to judge men. Truth is relative (I have my own truth). You have the power in you to become anything you want. Life consists of possessions. Satisfaction in life is to please yourself. Death is a pleasant experience thru a tunnel towards light.

Truth: Life is not random. God is the Creator and Judge. He is totally in charge of His universe. Truth is absolute (For example, the law of gravity works if you believe in it or not). Truth is not in you. It is external from you. It is revealed only in the Bible. Man is born a sinner. The most important thing in life is not what you possess but what you believe. The goal of life is not personal satisfaction but the glory of God. For unbelievers, death is a terrible one-way road to hell. The only hope is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ! He alone can save your soul!

Throughout Scripture, Jesus is referred to as the Son of God, the Son of Mary, the Son of Man, and the Son of David. Then who is Jesus? Jesus is the Son of the Living God! Together, these titles—Son of God, Son of Mary, Son of Man, and Son of David—paint a complete picture of Jesus’ divine mission. He came as God’s Son to save humanity, was born through Mary to live among us, assumed the role of the Son of Man to redeem us, and now reigns as the Son of David as God’s eternal King.

When God wanted to save the nation of Israel He sent baby Moses to Egypt, to Pharaoh’s palace. When God wanted to send a man to anoint King David, He sent baby Samuel to live in the temple. When God wanted to save us, He sent baby Jesus! You are not living until you live in Jesus Christ. There is no peace that passes all understanding and no unfailing Love except you are in Christ. Christmas is the greatest message of hope, peace and eternal life.

‘Unto us a Child was born’ shows Jesus’ humanity. ‘Unto us a Son is given’ reveals Christ before the incarnation. His name is Wonderful. It means full of wonder. When He was surrounded by shepherds, Jesus is wonderful. When the rich wise men came to offer him gifts, Jesus is wonderful. When King Herod wanted to kill Him and failed, Jesus is wonderful! He is the Counsellor. When men fail, Jesus will give you wisdom to solve any problem and light in any darkness. Jesus is Mighty God, El Gibor! He is the great shepherd who guides and provides. Jesus is the Everlasting Father. He is the Prince of Peace. In the history of humanity, there has never been any period without any wars. Peace was born in Bethlehem! “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (LK 2:13,14). Peace is the opposite of anxiety.

The Christmas truce: During the first world war, in 1914, the soldiers from the opposite camps decided to put down their weapons and make peace on Christmas day. About 100,000 Germans, French, British soldiers came out from their hiding places to rejoice in peace. They embraced each other, sang carols, exchanged food and gifts. They played football together. They exchanged prisoners. There were joint burial ceremonies. Later, the war became bitter. The generals did not allow truces again. But for one full day, there was ‘peace on earth’!

The story of Christmas is the story of The Child. This child is God! God sent His Son to us as a Child. Children love Christmas more than adults. I read that 75% of people who give their lives to Christ they do it before they are 18. Jesus said: “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matt 18:3). We must humble ourselves and repent, turnaround from sin and unto God. This is a deep change caused by the Holy Spirit. The citizens of the kingdom are like little children. A child is innocent, humble, and dependent on adults. At that time children were seen as nobodies. They had to status in society, no money and no power. The warning of Jesus is radical. If a sinner does not humble himself, repent and trust completely in Jesus, he will ‘by no means’ enter the Kingdom of heaven, which is the realm, rule, and reign of God, where Jesus Christ is King of kings. We see the absolute necessity of becoming born again to enter enteral life.

Jesus was born as man so that we become born again! Jesus was born by a human mother so that God will becomes our heavenly Father. Jesus was born in a manger so that we can be with Him in mansions of glory. Jesus became sin so that we become free. Jesus was born poor so that we may become rich. Jesus came as a Child to show us how we come to Jesus. We come in our weakness and need. That is hard for us to do. We must humble ourselves! You celebrate not just Christmas, but the Christ of Christmas! ‘When you kiss the face of Jesus, you kiss the face of God’. Oh, come let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord! Worship the Lord!

HINDRANCES TO THE ACCESS TO STAND

HINDRANCES TO THE ACCESS TO STAND

Justification is a once and for all act. From the moment God declares us righteous, He sees us like we have never sinned. As sinners, we were under the Law. God saw us as rebels and enemies. But now, we have changed kingdoms and kings. In the past, we were outside Grace. Now, we are inside Grace. King Grace has given us “access by faith in which we stand” before God. The word ‘access’ is defined as the liberty, the key, permission or ability to enter, and approach someone and the right to see him often. In Greek, the word ‘access’ means admission, an introduction, the right to approach someone. It describes the coming of the believer to the throne of God. This act is done by faith. Try to imagine this holy act: Newly justified by faith, The Lord Jesus Christ takes you by the hand, and brings you before God the Father, who sits on the throne. You remember Him as the Great Judge of the universe, who was angry with you because of your sins. Now, you discover that the same Judge is your Father. Jesus introduces you to God as His younger brother, sister, or as His future Bride. This is a form of official introduction to God. This access is your spiritual personal space of authority, peace, joy and freedom before God. We access that space only by faith in the Blood of Jesus. No unbeliever has access. To be invited to see God is the highest privilege known to man.

DOING GOOD AND PRAYER IN GOD’S PRESENCE (Matt 6:1-13).

Our Lord is teaching His disciples how to live a righteous life. His lessons here apply to doing good deeds, prayer and fasting. But the principle is universal. Prayer, praising God, and doing good deeds are done because you have access to God. But there is a danger! Jesus exposes the power of sin, which can corrupt the heart, even after we become saved. Pride is sin. It manifests as a desire to be seen, honored and worshipped as a Christian. These words are not only to criticize the Pharisees. These are words from the great Sermon of the Mount preached by our Lord. The Christian life is not easy. There are many dangers and warnings that we must heed. The devil attacks the mind with lies, fears, doubts, and especially pride. To successfully live as a Christian is a great achievement highly rewarded by God.

The main scripture is this: “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward from your Father in heaven” (Matt 6:1). The first thing we see here is that the Christian lives his life in the presence of God. He is always conscious of that. He truly desires to please God, not himself or others. The purpose of doing good deeds is to obey God’s Word and to be like Jesus. “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Ac 10:38).  The danger is that you may do good deeds, you are seen as a good person, but in your heart, you want to please people. By receiving praise from men, you reject the praise from God. The Pharisees “loved the praise of men more than the praise of God” (Jn 12:43). They don’t care about hearing these words from Jesus: “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord” (Matt 25:23). All they want is that men on earth compliment them for their religion, beauty, wealth, or achievements.

What is the sin? It is the desire to take the glory, to be admired by men because we are religious, generous, help people, attend a local church, we fast, pray and praise God. Jesus warns us to be careful about this sinful tendency of pride in our hearts. This desire for fame comes from selfish ambition. Its deep root is pride. To live a life pleasing to God, you need divine wisdom. As a Christian, you are ‘a city on a hill that cannot be hidden’ (Matt 5:14). You can’t avoid becoming visible. But actively seeking visibility, honor and promotion, that is a sin. At the same time, you cannot live like a monk. You can’t totally hide your life to avoid men seeing you. These words reveal the danger or pride and hypocrisy even for us who are Christians and have access into God’s presence. Even when we go into the presence of God to pray, we expect men to worship us because we are prayerful! We allow the devil to follow us in the presence of God! That is a great sin! God will judge it! This is a warning! Watch yourself very carefully! Jesus wants us to search our hearts and not just to do good religious things. Our motives in serving God must be right. We should not seek the approval or the admiration of men. We should desire to be holy as God is holy, pleasing God alone! Accepting praise from men blocks your reward in heaven. This is a reminder that in everything we do, we should never forget God and heaven. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matt 5:8). “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord” (Heb 12:14). Purity, Peace and Holiness in the heart, are the passwords to enjoy access into God’s presence! Hallelujah!

Jesus spoke about the Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Lk 18:9-14). Both were Jewish, religious men. Both men went to the temple to pray. The Pharisee stood proudly. His prayer focused on himself, on his achievements. He was praising himself in God’s house! The Tax Collector stood “afar off”. He did not see himself worthy of God’s attention. Broken in repentance, he only asked for mercy. Jesus saw into their hearts. Jesus said that the Tax collector had faith in Christ crucified. He went home Justified by faith. He humbled himself at the Cross and God ‘exalted’ him, by justifying him, by granting him salvation and access to God! The proud Pharisee lost a great opportunity to humble himself and to give his life to Christ. This is a great lesson: sin is internal. Sin is more than not doing fornication, for example. Sin is a state of the heart, the attitude we have to God. The most important lesson is that sin dwelling in our hearts can follow us everywhere, even into the presence of God!!! Here we see the dangerous and deceitful power of sin. The second lesson is a reminder that all sinners need to be born again! There is no other way to access God’s presence except thru faith in Christ crucified and resurrected. After becoming born again, we must press on thru the process of sanctification, to die to sin and to the world, taking our cross daily, following Jesus! Hallelujah!

What can you do then? Stay humble! “Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place of honor in His service] at the appropriate time” (1Pet 5:6; AMP). Be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Do not advertise your good deeds. Do not attract attention to yourself. If attention comes, stay calm, stay humble! Remember to always acknowledge God for every drop of success you experience. Your life should direct people to Jesus, and never to yourself or to other men. God openly rewards this attitude of humility and faithfulness! Kneeling before God, in worship and prayer, is the highest privilege given to man. Prayer is a holy work. Christ shed His Blood on the Cross to give us this access to God’s presence. We enter being conscious that God sees us and His ears are open to us in a special way. We enter the closet, we shut the door. We respect God’s presence. We forget the world, the people, both friends and enemies. In a way, we forget even ourselves. In God’s presence, the only thing that matters is God. Any remembrance of other things is a distraction and disrespect to the King upon His throne. We do not pray like the pagans, repeating many words. We speak simply, from the heart, to God who already knows all our needs. If you pray well, you will live well. Remain in an attitude of worship. God’s will is better than yours. You are an ambassador of Christ! His Kingdom is where you live now. Pray for its expansion on earth. Lastly, make sure that you give God all the glory! You do not become over-familiar with God, but more familiar with your place of standing before God. Your prayer life and your praise life become established. You are now a mature Christian. God will reward you openly!

SPIRITUAL BLOCKAGE TO ACCESS GOD

The access to God is thru the door of faith in Christ crucified for your sins. Thieves try to access God by false doors. They can never enter. Jesus said: “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (Jn 10:9,10).

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in” (Matt 23:13). Our Lord cursed the religious hypocrites. These words coming from the mouth of Him who loves us forever, are fearful. One reason why Jesus cursed the Pharisees is that they blocked the door of faith to God’s presence. These proud religious people blocked the access to Jesus by their very bodies. They refused to enter and block other seekers. They are ready to commit spiritual suicide to block other peoples’ access to God. This is wickedness in high places!

This is a reminder that the devil also attends church! What is the devil’s purpose in going to church? He tries to disrupt the service. First, the devil tries to hinder the believers from worshipping God or to listen to God’s Word. He tries to make them proud during the service. Secondly, he blinds the eyes of the unbelievers who are seeking God. He makes them sleepy, tired, distracted, or sick, so that they leave the service. About half of people who attend church go home untouched by God. Ignorance of the devil helps the devil. You must do spiritual warfare! The devil attacks your mind with lies and deception. He succeeded planting doubt in the mind of Adam and Eve when he asked them: “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” (Gen 3:1). The devil wants to damage your faith. Without faith, you cannot enter the access God has provided. The devil wants you to doubt God’s Word, God’s plans for your life, God’s Wisdom, and God’s Love for you. Once you doubt God’s character, you are already falling. Never forget: The devil is a thief and a liar. But “God cannot lie!” (Tit 1:2; Heb 6:18). When in doubt, run to the Cross! See Christ crucified for you! Stand strong in faith! Reject the devil! He will flee from you! Amen!

ROMANCE SCAMMERS – FAKE LOVERS (YAHOO BOYS)

THE SIN OF LAWLESSNESS

Lawlessness is rebellion against authority. It is illegal behavior not controlled by any law. It is a behavior that shows indifference or defiance to the law. The purpose of the law is to regulate human behavior. Lawlessness in a country is a state of disorder, usually resulting from a failure of government. Anarchy is a form of society without rulers. The climate of lawlessness is one of violence and confusion. Without faith in God or fear of God, there is chaos. ‘Even the worst form of tyranny was preferable to anarchy’ (John Calvin). The root of lawlessness is lack of discipline and terrible greed. High levels of poverty can lead to desperation. Men commit crimes to survive. When man becomes selfishly ambitious and greedy, wants to be rich at all costs, he places his desires above the law. His life is more important than any law.

The lawless person takes pleasure in breaking the law. With time, he breaks more laws. Lawlessness is a demon; it is sin, and it is addictive. Jesus died to expose and defeat the devil, who is the father of all sins and lies. “Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil” (1Jn 3:4-8). It is only thru faith in Jesus that lawlessness can be defeated.

According to the Bible, Lawlessness increases in the last days. From what we see in social media, the world is getting worse. There is more wickedness. The number of criminal cases, divorces, and violence is on the rise. Lawlessness damages relationships and families. It destroys every good thing among men. It especially damages Love! Jesus warned us about the future, saying: “And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come” (Matt 24:10-14). Agape Love is not just a feeling. It is God’s Law. Loving God and others is a Command! “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you” (Jn 15:12).

“Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness” (2Thess 2:5-12). The Holy Spirit restrains the devil so that sin is still limited. The demon of Lawlessness cannot enter where God’s children pray. The agents of the devil use seducing spirits to deceive many. Our protection is total faith in Jesus, in God’s Word. We must love the Truth in the Bible. We must be humble. We submit to God. We are confident that Jesus can never lose any battle. He will finally destroy the lawless one, the devil, with the breath of His mouth and by His glory revealed!

Righteousness is the opposite of lawlessness. It means being right, doing right, being lawful, living a godly and moral life as a citizen of the Kingdom of God. Godly, moral and righteous people seek God. They will cry out for the Kingdom of God and His righteousness to come!  Redemption and godliness are available NOW through faith in Jesus and obedience to God’s Word.  Our society needs people like Jesus now more than ever. The lawlessness we experience is the result of men’s rejection of God and His Word.  Are you LAWLESS or are you LAW ABIDING. Is Jesus seen in you thru your words and deeds? We must all give an account to Him for how we live in this world!

THE SPIRIT OF ANTICHRIST – ROMANCE SCAMMERS – FAKE LOVERS (YAHOO BOYS)

“For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward. 9 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; 11 for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds” (2Jn 1:9-11).

Deception is one of the sins that is practiced often but rarely tolerated; the lowest of the low, in society, are liars and thieves. Deception is the worst form of lying because the deceiver knowingly misleads the victim to believe that a lie is true. Deception is dangerous and has been the cause of death for many who have been victims of deception. The Bible warns us against deception. Deceivers use sweet words. “This I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words” (Col 2:4). Persuasive words are forceful, convincing, and partially truthful. They are like poison coated with sugar. Jesus said: “And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many” (Matt 24:4,5). Anxiety, fear of death, weakens the mind to be deceived. Peace of mind protects the mind against deception. “I urge you, brothers and sisters, to keep your eyes on those who cause dissensions and create obstacles or introduce temptations [for others] to commit sin, [acting in ways] contrary to the doctrine which you have learned. Turn away from them. For such people do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites and base desires. By smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting [the innocent and the naive]” (Rom 16:17,18; AMP).

A romantic scammer is a fake lover. He is a deceiver who attacks the victim’s bank account through her heart. Most of these relationships happen through the internet but sometimes they happen in person. Scamming in on the rise all over the world. In 2020, there was a loss of $304 million dollars from romance scams. The victims are mostly lonely wealthy women, widowed or divorces. The scammer uses a method called ‘catfishing’. He makes a false profile with false pictures, pretending to be someone else. His profile is made to match the female’s desires. If she loves fashion, he says he loves fashion too. The scammer attacks with sweet words. It is called ‘love bombing’. He writes long passionate love letters saying that he wants to marry her. This process is called ‘grooming’. The scammer and victim exchange love letters, pictures, and dreams of their future. This is to create an emotional connection and trust so that the victim becomes needy for love. Once this stage is set, the scammer starts to ask for money. He brings different excuses like sickness, having an accident etc. Initially the amounts are small but with time, the victim gives more money. The scammer can also ‘blackmail’ the victim. He threatens to be violent to the victim or her family. He also threatens to release her personal information to the media. These threats intimidate the victim to send more money. Be careful! These are signs of romance scam: the scammer flatters you!!! He is in a hurry to declare his love! “A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet” (PV 29:5). Be careful with sweet talking but impatient lovers!!!

Who are the victims? They have a romantic idea of marriage. They don’t care about the price they have to pay to hear romantic words. They imagine that they are actors in a movie. The people who know how hard it is to build a genuine relationship are not deceived. These women are lonely or have an inferiority complex. They have tried to marry, and failed, They are now disappointed in relationships. These can easily become victims to those who flatter them romantically. Once the spell is broken, and truth is revealed, the effect on the victim is massive. She has not only lost money, but all self-respect. She feels guilty and deeply ashamed. She totally loses trust in God and men! This is God’s warning to the scammers: “Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, But he who gathers gradually by [honest] labor will increase [his riches]” (PV 13:11; AMP). Selah!

Nigeria is reported to have the highest number of online romance fraudsters in Africa and ranks third in the world. I read that Nigeria was responsible for 1129 romance scams in 2021, amounting to the sum of £12.1 million, totaling an average of 22-million-naira loss per victim. These attackers are called ‘yahoo boys.’ They pretend to be wealthy handsome Europeans who want to marry women abroad. These young men even use ‘native doctors’ to make charms for them to succeed. They are ruthless. They don’t care for their victims’ feelings, who enter depression, and even commit suicide once they discovered that they have been deceived. Poverty, lack of genuine jobs, few role models, wealth display, and social acceptance are some reasons who the Yahoo Boys continue to scam. For them, this is their job. They don’t even hide. Many are celebrities and women want to marry them. Some say that taking money from the white people, is vengeance against slavery. But no matter what they say, scamming is a crime, a demon and sin. God hates sin. Their wealth will not benefit them in the end! We pray for revival in Nigeria. May the fear of God cover this land! May these men repent and surrender their lives to Christ! Amen!
