Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
Why should I feel discouraged
Why should the shadows come
Why should my heart feel lonely
And long for heaven and home
When Jesus is my portion
A constant friend is he
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches over me…
I sing because I’m happy
I sing because I’m free
His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me!
His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me!
(By Civilla D. Martin, 1905)
Every time I read the words to this song, it tugs on my heart… reminding me that God never sleeps or slumbers and He is always with me, always watching over me. That in itself is worth rejoicing over, worth praising and being happy. Thank God for a Father in Heaven who loves us so much and never ever forgets us.
May the praise of God and the joy of His presence be your constant companion! Always!
