THE DEVIL IS THE FATHER OF LIES (1)

The prayer meeting was good but not an easy one. We prayed and praised until the Holy Spirit ‘came down’. There was some hindrance coming mostly from the evil spirit of religion who attacks when men seek the truth and want to be free. We persisted in prayer and arrived at ‘the open door of escape’. The devil fights back for his time is short. But we are not ready to compromise. It is good to attend a church where people pray well. Then the sermon came:

“Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman: Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” (Gen 3:1)

The serpent was ‘subtle’. The word means to be deceitful, crafty, cunning, smooth and skilful in deception. The devil possessed the snake and spoke the first lie on earth, in the Garden of Eden. Please mark the very first word that came out from the devil’s mouth. It is the word ‘yea…’ This little word recorded in the Bible gives us a mighty revelation about the deceptive character of the father of lies. This first meaning of the word ‘yea’ in Hebrew is this: ‘also, though, rather than…’
‘Yea’ is called an accession word describing something added (to what was previously said), a joining or the act of coming close to somebody. The root of this word is ‘to access ‘. It means to have the permission to enter into a discussion, the ability to join a conversation or the liberty to use something available. The secondary meaning of the word ‘yea’ is ‘to be sure, confident or to have no doubts at all when talking’

From all these definitions, we deduce that the devil deceived Eve by pretending to be a lost and found familiar friend. It is like they knew each other in the past. He gives the impression that they had some unfinished conversions as neighbors of friends. The devil pretends to agree with what Eve was saying and adds to her words, correcting them, improving them, just the way friends do. That is a great lesson for us. The devil comes alongside like a friend in need to talk. He attacks lonely insecure people. Initially, he agrees with what you say and he flatters to soften your heart. Once he is allowed to come close, he strikes with a confident blow and plants a lie in the heart. That little ‘innocent seed lie will grow to become a tree of lies, a stronghold that will reject and oppose every truth in the Word of God. That is why we are commanded to test all spirits for not are from God! (1Jn 4:1)
Once the devil makes the connection, like a hungry lion, he jumps on the victim. He lies about God’s commandments. He makes God a liar. This is how Eve was deceived. Later Adam joined his wife in the rebellion. From now on, man and his descendants shall be called a sinner. Only the sacrifice of Christ can atone for such a sin.

The next time we find satan in the Bible is in the Book of Job. Here he does the opposite. In Genesis he was accusing God to men and he succeeded in deceiving them In the Book of Job he is accusing men to God. He is now called ‘the accuser of the brethren’. He was trying to deceive God that Job worships Him only because he is blessed. The devil tells God that in the absence of blessings Job will curse Him. Of course, God was not deceived. God then proves to all men that Job is a true worshippers and the devil is a liar.
The conclusion is that the devil attacks by trying to cause division between God and His children. He is defeated thru spiritual warfare, thru a personal confession of the power of the Blood of Jesus applied practically to the circumstances of your life.

“And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death” (Rev 12:9-11)

In Christ I declare:
By God’s grace I do not lie, deceive, slander or manipulate!
I hate lying!
I destroy any spiritual connection between me and the father of lies!
I speak the truth in love!
So help me God!
In Jesus name
Amen!
