“Obey your spiritual leaders and submit to them [continually recognizing their authority over you], for they are constantly keeping watch over your souls and guarding your spiritual welfare, as men who will have to render an account [of their trust]. [Do your part to] let them do this with gladness and not with sighing and groaning, for that would not be profitable to you either” (Heb 13:17; AMP)
The Body of Christ is One! It is a spiritual Body made of many living parts but all united by the Holy Spirit, in a single purpose to the glory of God. ‘Attending a church’ is much more than ‘attending a church’. The Holy Spirit has to lead you to a particular local assembly. Pray for direction. Choosing a church for your family is a very serious matter, even more serious than choosing a school for your children. It is not enough to like the music or the pastor. You become a part of a spiritual family. There are duties and responsibilities. There are consequences too. You need to submit to God and to His delegated authority in that church. God monitors your relationship with your pastor who is your spiritual covering. Submission brings blessings to you and your pastor. Rebellion brings trouble to everybody.
(We are visiting a country where church services are held on Fridays. This is Sunday morning. It is a regular day of work here. I miss church back home…)
This morning pray for wisdom. If you have peace in the church you attend, if you and your pastor are a blessing to one another, to the glory of God, then give thanks to God! As a pastor, I speak blessings on you! In Jesus name, amen!
