“All who make idols are nothing,
and the things they treasure are worthless.
Those who would speak up for them are blind;
they are ignorant, to their own shame.
Who shapes a god and casts an idol,
which can profit nothing?
People who do that will be put to shame” (Is 44:9-11)
Some time ago, my husband and I visited the famous ancient city of Ephesus. It is in today’s Turkey. After walking between the ruins, we went to the museum. They had many works of art dugged out from the ground. Inside the museum at Ephesus, we saw this statue, the head of Caesar Domitian. It is a 2000 years sculpture beautifully done in marble. Domitian was described as handsome. He was the emperor who decreed that the Apostle John should be punished and sent to die on the Island of Patmos. As you all know, John was visited there by the Lord and given the Book of Revelation. Not long after he punished John, Domitian was killed by his steward and died without a heir. One of his army generals Nerva replaced him as king. He annulled all Domitian’s edicts and released John from his prison in Patmos. John went back to Ephesus and continued his ministry as the Bishop of the church there. Domitian worshiped Athena, the goddess of wisdom and poetry. But in his hour of trouble she could not help him. Idols are useless! Athena had no wisdom and no poem to help him, to save his soul. Man made gods are nonsense! Domitian rejected John and John’s God. This is the truth: There is no Savior except the Lord Jesus Christ! Today, nobody remembers Domitian. But millions read the Book of Revelation and know about Apostle John! Praise the Lord!
If you read these words are you are not saved, please give your life to Christ! This is the greatest wisdom of all!
